  1. Drifting, no floating was more like it…no…falling; slowly at first, then moving more quickly…FLASH! What was that, a light from below? Where is the surface…where are the people?Falling faster now…ground coming up quickly… The sky…where is the sky? Heat and flames…burning…pain…FLASH! Soldiers…a ship entering orbit. Why am I burning? Jonus woke with a start and a feeling as if his lungs had decided to stop working. His breathing was labored and difficult. “Computer, lights!” There was nothing here, no people, no soldiers, no flames. It was a dream, nothing more; yet why did he feel like he had been there; of course it would be nice to know where “there” was. He looked down at his hands, half expecting them to be seared to the bone, but they were just fine. He moved to the replicator, “Computer, water, cold.” The machine emitted a soft light as it produced the drink that was requested. Jonus took a long drink, almost finishing the entire contents of the glass, and set it back upon the surface of the machine. He felt a little better, now that he knew it was just a strange dream. He moved to the lavatory and stood in front of the sink and splashed water on his face. The coolness of the liquid running over his skin was soothing and the images seemed to be fading faster and faster. He dried his hand and glanced into the mirror…to an image that wasn’t his own! Staring back at him in the mirror was a Romulan face, not his own. It’s an interesting feeling, finding yourself in a panicked state: it doesn’t happen to quickly, the realization that is (at least not for an El-Aurian). The sight, the impression all seemed to move in slow motion. Jonus actually had to time to study the image for a bit, notice his features: a small scar on his left cheek. After only a brief second, to any normal Terran, the sense of time advanced on and then came the scream. “Security, intruder alert, section….” The image was his own face now, nothing more than that. He paused in his request and a sense of dread and foreboding began to move in to his thoughts. Jonus stood there for a while and even reached out to touch the mirror, then touch his own face, as a juvenile would when seeing something in disbelief. The com quickly responded, “Report! Intruder in what section?” “Belay that security, my apologies. Everything is fine, Jonus out.” He moved back to his bed and sat beside the computer terminal that was emitting a soft light upon his face, “Computer, begin personal log… I have had the strangest experience…I was Romulan and I recognized him, I mean…myself…I mean… Computer, delete log.” What the hell is wrong with me; I have to focus, I have to ….brief! The mission brief; Romulans, Proxima Centuri. As Jonus sat there and pondered the current mission, he knew he would no longer be able to sleep. He began to get dressed, making sure his uniform looked as immaculate as possible, and then proceeded to his station to do some research on his own.
  2. Computer - open personal log - begin recording: I have been assigned to the USS Manticore and I am looking forward to my first mission. My quarters have been assigned and they are nicer than I expected. I was able to bring only a few personal items with me from home, but it helps me to ease into my new station here. I have yet to introduced myself to the captain, but look forward to engage him in discussions. He strikes me as a man with a vision and with much determinaton. I only hope I will be able to prove my worth, not only to him, but to the rest of the crew. I have seen my station and I look forward to getting to work. I am preparing a preliminary report on my new theories of temporal wakes and the effects they have on subspace within the region. Hopefully this will allow future scientists to develop new ways of controlling the long term effects of subspace fractures and effects of crew members. As I sit here and contemplate my new life in Starfleet, I can still here my mother's words echoing in my head, "There is a world where time and space have an equal hold over each other, and over us. You will find that link and explore it to its fullest potential, and then realize you have only scratched the surface my son. But the journey will be unlike any you have experienced" My mission begins. Computer - end recording.
  3. Name: Jonus (sjonus) Sex: Male Age:44 (but looks 28) Race: Human/El-Aurian Rank: Ensign Position: Science - Temporal and Quantum Mechanics Education: Bachelors in Geology Bachelors in Psychology PhD in Temporal Mechanics, minor in Quantum Theoretical Applications He was born Sal'run Jonus on stardate 6540.45 (2329) to a Human father and an El-Aurian mother. The birth was nothing special as he was in a cargo bay, on a transport vessel, at the time. His family was fleeing from a civil war that had broken out on a small "M" class planet, on which they were staying. During their travels, Sal'run's mother gave birth to him, and thus began the life of Jonus (the name by which he goes now). Jonus's father was an acclaimed terra-former and his mother had the ability of seeing beyond the normal confines of sight. His mother's race has always been known to have special abilities, beyond what a Terran would, but it would take a few years for those to develop in Jonus. As Jonus proceeded through life, he had the opportunity to visit several worlds and learn from many different cultures; all the while living life to the fullest, and still being considered a child (in El-Aurian terms). By the time Jonus was 25, he had received a degree in Geology and was becoming a welcomed addition to his father's group of scientists; however, Jonus always kept looking to the stars to find the answer to the question that was nagging him inside -- "What else is there?" His question was about to be answered. The next two years began a turbulent change for Jonus: his father was killed in a tragic shuttle accident, leaving only his mother; whom he was quite close to now. His mother began showing him the way to open his mind to the cosmos and "feel" the fabric of space. Over the next several months, Jonus spent much of his time in deep meditation until one day he moved beyond the normal realm of space as we know it. The room began to shift and Jonus felt himself upon the surface of a world he had never been before. He was an observer of a world at its formation. The experience was disconcerting at first, but later exhilarating. His mother tried to rouse him from the 'sensation' but was unable to. After a week in a type of coma, he was brought back by his mother linking with him. After this experience he was finally able to understand what his mother had been trying to show him all these years: the universe was open to him, as well as time and space which he was now beginning to understand. After four years of intense dedication and study, Jonus received another degree in temporal mechanics. He realized he wanted to be out among the stars to begin his practical applications and the only sure way to ensure that was Starfleet. He applied with the Academy, yet had to wait a while longer because his mother became quite ill. For the next eight years he stayed with her and took care of her every need. During his free time, he continued his studies and received his PhD in Temporal Mechanics and Quantum Mechanics. After the long struggle, he mother died as well and Jonus continued with his life. He was finally able to go back to the Academy and wasted little time in graduating with honours, and awaiting his first posting. During the Academy, Jonus had excelled in scientific studies, and operational studies. After receiving the rank of Ensign, as a Starfleet officer, he was hoping for a posting on a science vessel and soon he got his wish by being posted on the prestigious USS Manticore. Thus begins a new chapter in the life of Ensign Sal'run Jonus, PhD. (Dr. Jonus)
