  1. Computer, begin personal log. *Confirmed, Officer's Personal Log Recording* Morningstar has been atacked. We were trying to ascertain what was on the dead ship that we encountered when all the sudden we started taking hits. We were taken completely by surprise, so we had not had our shields up, not like they worked anyway in this hellhole they call the Expanse. After we fought off some of the fighters, I realized that our hull must be weakening. The Chief sent me to repair a weak spot in the hull, which was no challenge, but was a sign that more trouble was to follow. Admiral Day ordered a retreat, but we didn't get very far before we were intercepted by more fighters. Knowing this could be trouble, I kept my repair kit handy and monitored the hull's condition in Engineering, while Lieutenant Admiran was trying to determine a way to get our shields functional. If he succeeed, it would certainly take a lot of weight off of my shoulders as far as damage control, but there was simply no way to get the emitters to hold a constant grid. With the interference by radiation in the Expanse, the harmonics would constantly be resetting themselves, offering us no protection against the Jem'Hadar weapons. In my opinion, there is no way of getting ourselves out of this mess. Wee are outgunned 5 to 1, and unless Admiral Day can use some of his brilliant tactics, we might as well just surrender now to save our own hides *Explosion in background* Computer, end personal log. *Confirmed, Officer's Personal Log Saved*
  2. Ryan rubbed his eyes as he backed away from his console. For 15 hours straight, he had been working on the new shield configuration, but so far there had been no success. Every harmonic sequence had some flaw that the weapon could exploit and have as much or worse impact on the ship. Ryan walked away from the console he was working at and went over to the duty shift console. His shift had been over for a few hours, but he really wanted to get the new shield harmonics figured out. He still wanted to be working, but he didn’t want to end up in sickbay because of exhaustion. He wasn’t too fond of being in sickbay anymore, especially because of his experience after contracting the mysterious virus that swarmed the ship. He found his name on the duty list and checked out, then headed off to the mess hall. When he arrived, he quckly found a replicator and ordered an old Earth beverage called “Pepsi”. On his way over to a table, he heard his name shouter from across the room. “Ryan!” He turned around and saw one of his Academy classmates, John Wilkins, waving wildly. Ryan waved back and walked over to where he was. “John! I didn’t know you served on the Morningstar.” Ryan said as he extended his hand. John shook it and motioned to a seat. Ryan sat down and took a sip of his Pepsi. “Yes, I’ve served on her ever since her first shakedown,” John said, sipping his coffee. “Are you an engineer? That’s what you went to the Academy for, right?” Ryan asked. “Yes, yes. Still a dreary engineering officer,” John said, smiling. “Why have I never seen you down in engineering?” “I’m not a fancy Lieutenant Junior Grade like you,” John said, “us Ensigns get the late shifts.” “Well, that would explain why there aren’t any Ensigns to do the dirty work in my shift,” Ryan joked. They both laughed and moved on to talking about their Academy days. After about an hour, Ryan decided that he had better get some sleep if he was going to be able to think clearly about the shield situation. He told John goodbye and he would try to get him on one of the day shifts. They shook hands and Ryan walked out of the mess hall to his quarters. After arriving at his quarters, Ryan fell asleep immediately. He was exhausted, but from what? It had been another day of failure. When would he ever have a day of success? When would he be the hero of the day? He could only hope that he could find the shield harmonic sequence that could block just about any weapon, including the alien’s one. Then maybe he would be recognized on the ship.
  3. “Not So Sweet Dreams” Stardate: 0512.13 Lt. JG Ryan Kaufman ----------------------------- Kaufman had quite a run in with that virus, but now he was recovering quite well. He was one of the lucky ones who could be saved from the virus’s rampant spread. Though the virus was quick to remove, the same couldn’t be said about his recovery. At least he was one of the few who actually remembered what happened, showing that his nervous system and brain had not been affected by the virus in any way. He had to sit in bed for hours while being tube fed, as the doctors weren’t quite sure if the virus was still affecting his bodily functions such as digestion and excretion. As he lay there in the biobed, Ryan’s thoughts drifted to his very strange dream he had when he was unconscious. He remembered when he first woke up from his slumber, how all the tension and pain went away, and the remaining feeling was a generous amount of total bliss and an overwhelming sense of wisdom, almost like his dream was speaking to him in some way. In the dream, Ryan was being chased by a dragon-like creature, but for some reason he was in the middle of space. Just floating. He saw many planets fly by and the stars were streaking, almost as though he was at warp speed. Just before he came out of this dream, the dragon exploded in a bright flash, leaving nothing behind. Just the stars. It was then that Ryan woke up, the virus removed from his body. Though he had no idea of what his dream meant, he had a feeling that he knew something that was going to happen in the future. Maybe not in the near future, but possibly hundreds of years down the road. Instead of dwelling on what the symbols may be, he moved on to figuring out what the plot meant. Could it be that something (or someone) might be after him? Or could he be representing the Federation? Quite possibly the entire human race? These questions bothered him for a few days and he desperately wanted to see the counselor, but the doctors wouldn’t release him from their care for any reason. He wasn’t even allowed to urinate by himself. He had to be monitored for any lasting effects of the virus. A couple more days passed and Ryan’s recovery was almost complete. At least he could eat normally, but going to the bathroom was still a public event. Because he was bedridden and had no duties to attend to, Ryan had a large amount of time to figure out his dream, but still couldn’t arrive at any conclusions. He then tried to figure out the symbolism of the dream because logically, he wouldn’t be chased through space by a dragon going warp speed. He tried many options, but the most logical had the dragon as some daunting enemy while Ryan was the human race. But what did this signify? Whatever it was, he had a bad gut feeling about it. He decided to wait until he was well before pursuing the matter any further. Perhaps the counselor could help him out. P.S. This is my first log. I hope I did it right! Please make comments so I know how I did. Thanks!

So Ryan studied for the remaining three years and earned top honors in his engineering classes. Upon graduation from the Academy, Ryan received a post on the U.S.S. Excalibur as an Assistant Engineering officer with the rank of Ensign.
  5. My question would be: Does the number have the same amount of letters of "yes" or "no"? Then, if the number is 2 or 3, you would be giving the answer away by answering yes or no <_< But if the number isn't 2 or 3, then I would know that the answer is definitely 1.
