  1. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the chat tonight! We enjoyed talking to you, and you had some good questions. If you think of any more, please feel free to email us, or post them in the Introduction thread.
  2. To both Dumbass and Cougar -- I am quite sure that I do not want to know.
  3. Does anyone ever really know someone? :(
  4. Oh, dear. I'd better go earmark the funds for the big climactic scene, before they get funneled off to the caterers... Next time, Robair -- Scenic Design. We can live without the panoramic landscape shots.
  5. Captain Davies, Yes, but unfortunately we could only get permission to use tranquilizers. Apparently the Marine population is considered too low, and protected by the Federation Council. <_< ~Harper
  6. No, he's right. The layout work was his, the effects work was mine. Although I did have to redo the thing from scratch based on his layout since someone ( ::poke:: ) doesn't seem to understand layer preservation, and so I needed to put the text in afresh. But the design concept is all Davies', I just prettied it up. :o There's only the one that's posted. Do remember that what you see in the thread is a thumbnail; the actual image is 649 x 488.
  7. Length isn't a problem. :P The answer is -- quite possibly all three, depending. In such a circumstance, the officer in charge of the Away Team would be the first person to deal with the situation. It would then be passed up the chain of command to be dealt with, how far up it goes depending on the resolution and the consequences of the Marine wandering off.
  8. Or you can do as I do in my notes, and call it either the "Agin" (English pronunciation) or the "Ag" (bearing no resemblance to either). ::chuckles::
  9. Folks, could we move the Enterprise finale discussion to its own thread, please? I don't mind the little digressions this thread has spawned, but it's getting quite long enough without hosting two full discussions. Thanks. :P Col. C. E. Harper
  10. ::smiles:: Thank you.
  11. Well, if worst comes to worst, there's always the good old-fashioned toothbrush method... Seriously, relying on technology is a problem for any sci-fi game. The important thing is to find a balance between playing with the cool toys and letting the tech become a crutch. It's something even experienced simmers can struggle with from time to time, and there isn't much you can do except nudge folks back on track.
  12. Nemesis, Thanks for your question. Col. Harper's avatar was an experiment and is now a placeholder until Col. Harper's pictoral creativity reappears from whatever tropical island it's been vacationing on. :wacko: See you in the future, Colonel Harper
  13. ::laughs:: Well, then, to clarify -- land and take off again afterwards. Although since it's very much an emergencies-only measure, it's entirely possible that any such landing would not be a soft one...
  14. Federation, Romulan Empire to Launch Joint Scientific Venture by Sukik Ty'ree, Federation News Service Since the discovery in 2370 that warp travel was disrupting subspace, scientists have closely studied faster-than-light travel. Improvements in warp technology such as that installed in the Intrepid-class starships permitted the abolition of the warp speed limit, but there was still concern in the scientific community regarding the long-term effects of warp travel. New methods of FTL transit became a developmental priority. Now, with the signing of the Versailles treaty, Federation scientists have joined with Romulan in an historic joint study, the first of its kind. Their goal is to make a comprehensive investigation of methods of faster-than-light transit, including transwarp corridors, as well as other technologies that have the potential to be adapted, notably cloaking fields. Although the project is still in its infancy, scientists and politicians alike are optimistic about its prospects. "Even if no viable technology emerges from this study," says Thomas Brown of the Federation Science Council, "it will still be remarkable for its historical value. This is the first truly joint mission between the Federation and the Romulan Empire." "Science meets more easily than culture," Senator Sulak of Romulus opines. "It is a universal language. This project with will open new lines of communication between out peoples." 15. Dumbass -- To some extent, however due to the contraints of the sim format the options will be limited. Cougar -- Yes, it will be an open position. As for how many, I imagine that may depend on how many applications we receive, as I think we'd like to avoid having all Marines and nothing else. But as our blank roster stands now, the division will be about the same size as any other ship division. -Col. C.E. Harper
  16. Kansas, Thanks for your interest. Since Captain Davies has left me two of your questions, let me see if I can answer them both at once. The Marines will be a separate division reporting directly to the XO, but will be expected to have a variety of specialties. Depending on those specialties, Marines may be placed 'on loan' to regular ship departments when the battalion is not needed for its primary purposes. So, yes and no. Helpful, aren't I? -Col. C.E.
