  1. "Computer, run simulation Armstrong-216" The computer beeped it's acknowledgment and Allen sat back hard in his seat inside one of the Mongoose class fighters. He took a deep breath and exhaled it heavily as the results of the simulation came up. The voice of the computer echoed inside the cockpit. "Simulation complete. Warp core breach inevitable." He shook his head and sighed. Damn these simulations, he thought to himself. He knew there was a way to pull off the maneuver without tearing the small craft apart. He wasn't able to attempt it on the holodeck; the safety protocols wouldn't allow an accurate test, and taking the ship out for a test was out of the question; it would never be approved. He was sure the computer was wrong. He'd learned these fighters inside and out the past year and was sure he knew exactly what they were capable of. Granted, the maneuver he'd thought up was dangerous and would certainly overload more than one system, but he was positive that it wouldn't cause a warp core breach. Resigned to the fact that no matter how much he tweaked the simulation the results would be the same, he powered the console down and climbed out of the cockpit. Allen stood beside the craft for a moment, surveying the fighter bay. It seemed so long ago now that the Athra attacked the station. He wasn't aboard when it happened, but he was going to make damn sure that this unit would be ready should it happen again, Athra or not. He wanted to be sure that not only did the pilots know the controls and the basic maneuverabilty of these fighters, they knew every little trick in the play book, and some that weren't written. Satisfied, Allen left the fighter bay with a mind to have a drink on the Midway after he checked in at main security to clock out. He shared the turbolift with a pair of deckhands just coming off shift and it struck him then, as he watched them and listened to there banter, that he didn't have many friends on the station, if any at all. Since his return to Aegis, he'd been like a man possessed, obsessed with duty. Nothing mattered other than completing his tasks to perfection and finding ways to improve. He hadn't made any bonds of friendship, as Spader and Harada had. As he exited the lift and walked out onto the Midway, Allen suddenly felt very alone.
  2. OMG.. omg that was hilarious.
  3. Lieutenant Armstrong sat in his sparsely furnished crew quarters aboard the USS Natchitoches, leaning to the left with his elbow on the arm of the chair. His chin rested on his balled fist as he watched countless stars streak past the view port. In his right hand he held the report about the goings-on at Sky Harbor Aegis. It contained only that information that was was pertinent to his duties. He was troubled by the events that were outlined in the report. He wondered what to expect when he arrived. He could imagine being greeted by the business end of a Romulan disruptor. He shook those thoughts from his head, rubbing his weary eyes with his thumb and index finger. He went over the report one more time, just to make sure he had all the details right. Shaking his head, he gazed out the view port once more, finding the streaks of light soothing. He found himself just as anxious about his return to the station as he did when he first set foot upon the deck of Pylon 1. “Computer,” he began, “open logs.” He waited for the tone to sound before he began, taking a deep breath, exhaling slowly. “Personal log, star date 1003.04. I am en route to Sky Harbor Aegis to resume my duties as security officer under Centurion tr'Jeth Dabi. The situation on the station is one that I am not looking forward to walking into, but such is the life of a Star Fleet officer. The station is on high alert, with fears of another attack, and further mutiny within. Mutiny...” The word hung in the air as he continued to gaze out the window. “Could it really be that? Would Commander Chirakis act without the best interests of the station and its personnel in mind? Could there be more to this than a simple power struggle? Ambassador Drankum must have seen what occurred in the command tower to be a Star Fleet plot to wrest control of the station from him once and for all. I imagine he'll view my arrival on the station as a little to convenient to not have something to do with it. Even though the 'paper work' for the return to duty should have been on his desk before the attack.” He paused, unsure of what else to add. Leaning his head back and closing his eyes, he gave the command to close the log. Inhaling deeply, he exhaled a sharp sigh, as if he were about to embark on the most unpleasant of missions. He doubted he was going to get much sleep before the Natchitoches docked with Aegis.

  6. Joint Log featuring Torate tr'Jeth Dabi and Allen Armstrong. He stood still in front of the Main Security console that overlooked all three levels of the concourse. tr'Jeth Dabi had walked off the turbo lift and right over to Main Security and stopped dead ahead of it. He continued to read through the PADD of information that Commander Chirakis distributed to him. The musings of the new security officer were listed in chronological order. Torate didn’t even look up when Allen cleared his throat; he just continued to read the duty logs from the last few days, out loud. “Stardate: 0604.09, … containment … quarantine of colonists … success…. Bean set up … area…” He paused for a moment before reading the next line, even though he’d already read through all of this prior. Torate slowed slightly as he read every word in this portion with his heavy Romulan accent, “’I took a double-shift in Main Security, familiarizing myself with the main security console and station security procedures.’” Turning his eyes towards Allen, and raising one of his high ridged brows, he questioned, “this is your duty log?” Allen was quick to answer, "Yes, sir. You will find internal sensor and video logs attached." Standing straight, appearing confident, his expression did not tell his thoughts. Allen was worried that he had done something wrong, that his log was not comprehensive enough for his Romulan superior. As first meetings go, Allen feared that this one was off to a terrible start. "Also, sir" he began, "you will find a note on a particularly interesting video log from the fighter bay. It was my opinion, however, that the situation had resolved itself." The tall Rihannsu looked Allen directly in the eyes, giving the terribly long pause the presence it deserved. Eventually, he looked back down at the PADD and started speaking again, not very loud, but enough that Allen could over hear Torate’s sure voice. “There were applicants for security technician positions. You reviewed them?” Allen nodded once, maintaining his rigid posture, his jaw firmly set. “I did, sir” was his only reply. tr'Jeth Dabi was being particularly quiet, watching Allen’s moves and responses so he could characterize this man that was hand picked. “Senior is a pilot, Bean a marksman, but Rutian has some nice weapons.” While some may have struggled understanding the chief of security's meaning, Allen was quick with what he believed to be the answer he was looking for. “Yes, she does seem to have extensive theoretical knowledge of several different weapon systems. She handles them quite well also.” Allen paused a moment to consider his next words. “I would certainly place her below the two other applicants, but she does have her strengths. Though, she does lack the ingenuity of the others. She did not perform well under the pressure of the last task.” Torate just nodded with a, “Ie,” to Allen’s reply. He stepped back to the containment cells, noting two open doors where he had left the applicants. Security Techs Bean and Senior had escaped triumphantly, though both tore up the cells a bit. “Fix these cells so they cannot escape,” though his delivery wasn’t kind or flowery, the rough words spoken by the Daise’Security were just words to him, nothing that had to be kind or gentle. He looked into the cell where Maple had been held. Rutian’s walls and cell were in the same condition as when he had left. Torate stepped outside the cell and called down the corridor, “Rutian, front and centre.” Maple Rutian had napped after Torate ordered her release while he was still off the station. When Security Tech Senior released the field, she leapt to her feet and felt rather grateful that she was finally free of her bondage. Though she hadn’t been formally added as a security technician, she was hanging out in the small conference area, waiting to meet with tr'Jeth when he returned. She dreaded this moment when she knew she’d have to face him again. And now, she stood in front of the two Officers wondering her fate, not just the one she feared. Torate looked her up and down, noting she looked well put together and rested, so clearly she had time to rest up and present … those long legs again. He knew her skills – he had made his decision, but he wasn’t ready to divulge. “Interrogation 2,” he said so quietly they both had to strain to hear. After it registered for her, she said, “Oh, of course, Sir,” and scooted into the interrogation room quickly. tr'Jeth Dabi’s eyes followed her legs until the door closed behind her. As it closed, Torate turned to Allen, then paused. “Your opinion?” Allen, who had also followed her legs with his eyes, was a tad too quick with his response. "Excellent shape." He looked up quickly, the slight smile that had crept into his expression fading. Torate knew exactly what he was speaking of and wanted to slip an elbow to him in comradery, but there was no way he was making nice with some lloann’na, this was work. “Interrogate her. Get evidence she did not try and escape as the others.” He opened up the door to the viewing room, nodded to Interrogation Room 2, and left Allen to his own devices. Allen entered the room, looming large over the table across from Maple Rutian. He straightened his Starfleet uniform and stared at the woman for what felt, for her at least, like an eternity. He did not sit as he began: “You did attempt to escape from your cell.” Rutian looked down at the table, speechless. “On several occasions you begged to be released, even broke down into tears.” He watched closely, the young woman's body language. “Why did you not attempt to escape?” Torate was standing with his hands clasped behind his back, watching through the glass, actually nodding in agreement with the way this Midshipman was handling things. His choice was solid and here was the proof.

  12. Assistant Security Officers Log Stardate: 0604.09 A temporary containment area for the quarantine of colonists has been successfully created. Security Technician Bean set up the area with the guidance and cooperation of Ambassador Joy. The area encompasses a diplomatic docking bay and medical facility. I took a double-shift in Main Security, familiarizing myself with the main security console and station security procedures. There were no incidents to report. All is well. Midshipman Allen Armstrong [End Log] Personal Log Stardate: 0604.09 I haven't had much of a chance to get settled in since my arrival. It's baptism by fire for me. I wouldn't want it any other way. I knew when I took this post that it wasn't going to be all fun and games. I was hoping for a challenge and that is exactly what I am being given. Security Tr'Jeth Dabi was not aboard the station at the time of my arrival. I am a little thankful that I had the chance to familiarize myself with the station somewhat before I reported to him. Also, I'm glad for the fact that my first duties could be performed without a Romulan breathing down my neck. I still have my reservations about all this, but I'm sure all will change once I have met him. I noted that there was someone moping in one of the containment cells. I have to say, she was quite the extraordinary specimen. I also noted that two of the cells had been tampered with on the inside. I will have to bring this up with the Chief. Detainees should not be able to access relays controlling the containment fields. Well, that's about all for now. Back to work I go. [End Log]
  13. How do you think Canadian soccer fans feel? The handling of our national program is so horrid that our best players often pass on playing for the national team, often choosing to play for the countries of their fathers, when possible. I will use Owen Hargreaves as a prime example, not to mention to debacle over the de Guzman's. At least Dwayne deRossario knows where his alliagences lay.

  20. I've been doing something thinking about this whole time travel thing and I got to wondering. How was it that the Enterprise-E was able to get back to it's own timeline in First Contact? If the very action of going back in time creates a new time line, and alternate universe, then how was that possible? Is it that they were able to go back to their present because they were always a part of their past? That question got me to wondering this: What if the timeline we all know and love is actually an alternate timeline, created by the Enterprise-E in Star Trek: First Contact? We know that Zephram Cochrane was motivated by money. He wanted to get rich. He was flying the Pheonix for his own personal goals. So, in the "mirror universe" he shoots the Vulcans that land on earth and steal their ship and use their technology for himself, thus beginning the Imperial Starfleet. Would that have been what happened, had the Borg not gone back in time, forcing the Enterprise to follow and thus changing history, or, rather, becoming a part of it? Would Cochrane, not having been told that he must usher in a new era of peace and prosperity for mankind, have fired on the vulcans? Hmmm...
  21. Allen left the the control tower with his bag slung over his shoulder. He gave the PADD Lt. Porter had given him a look, checking the location of his quarters. He took the turbolift to his designated deck. Looking about the halls, attempting to familiarize himself with his surroundings, he made his way to his quarters. Checking the PADD once again, he punched in the code to unlock the door to his quarters, stepping inside once the doors slide open. Allen stood in the centre of the room, looking about, taking in the sight of his modest quarters. It was barren, save for the necessities. He took a deep breath, exhaling as he dropped the bag from his shoulder. It struck him at that moment. This was the beginning of the rest of his life. He was on his own now, fully, for the first time in his life. His career was just beginning. He would be receiving his final training aboard this station, so very far from home, in neutral space. Picking up his bag of belongings, he set it on the small table in the dining area. He opened the bag, taking out a wrapped package, taking from it his family portrait, which he rested on the table. He gave the photo a long look before emptying the contents of his bag. There were holophotos and framed diplomas, two books, and his clothing; two extra uniforms and a dress uniform, as well as some fashionable clothing for off-duty hours. He didn't waste much time hanging his clothing in the closet. He didn't bother with most of the photos, but he did stand the family portrait on the small bedside table before he left his quarters to report to medical.

  24. Personal Log, stardate 0905.13. I have been assigned to Sky Harbour Aegis. It is as far from home as I've ever been. I was surprised, and maybe a little bit disappointed, that my application was accepted so quickly. I was enjoying some personal time, communing with nature in Algonquin Provincial Park. It has always been my favourite thing to do, camping Algonquin Park. Every summer, while growing up, I would spend two weeks camping with my parents and my little sister. This time, however, I was on my own, living off the land. I was in the middle of what had been planned to be a two week sojourn through the Canadian Shield when I received the communication from Starfleet. I was excited to be going to my first post, but I was also disappointed that I wouldn't have a bit more time off after graduation. I understand, however, that Sky Harbour Aegis is in need of able security officers. I am currently en route to the station and look forward to lending a hand to ensure things run smoothly. I have reservations about my department head. I have never met a Romulan, and I still feel many of the emotions associated with childhood fear of impending war with the Romulan Star Empire. I hope that I can learn more about them, however, as I work closely with Lt. tr'Jeth Dabi. As a matter of fact, I look forward to it. Midshipman Allen A. Armstrong, Sky Harbour Aegis -=End Log=-
