  1. I was thinking about all the Trek siggys on the site and figured I'd ask y'all. What's your favourite trek phrase(s). I think mine has to be: Picard: Mr Worf, do you intend to blast a hole in the viewer? Kim
  2. Cadet Log. Entry one. Begin: 'I guess I should start at the beginning. It's been a week now since I arrived here and so much has happened already that I'm finding it difficult just to find the time to record my thoughts.' Pause Entry. Kim sighed, rubbed her forehead and headed to the replicator in her room. 'Hot Chocolate' she commanded, 'de-sugared.' The replicator beeped and she took the drink, feeling the warmth already moving through the cup to her fingertips. She walked back to the chair in her room and stared around her quarters. She sighed again and took a quick drink. Resume Entry One. 'The classes here are a little more gruelling than what I expected. Dad told me that training to be a security officer had been easy for him. I doubt it. We had personal phaser training last Friday and just holding one felt strange. I mean, it has the power to end life. That's just weird. My other classes are going well, I think. Medical is really good. I've learned about biobed function, hyposprays and medical tricorders already and I'm just a week in. Learning the different drugs is harder. A lot of them sound the same and I just hope I can fit it all in before the final exams.' Pause Entry Kim took another swig of the chocolate and then set it on her small coffee table. She ran her hand through her black hair and thought about her father. She hoped he would have been proud of her. 'Go to Starfleet.' he'd said. 'Train in whatever you like, but make sure your hand knows it's way around a phaser!' She wiped a tear from her eye before it had time to fully form. Resume Entry One. 'Engineering still has major concerns for me and I'm hoping I get my head around basic nacelle design. I think it's my weak area, and I've had difficulty even motivating myself with the concepts of it. I just know it works, but not how. Science is easy enough and for a little while I was tempted to major in that, but I think I'll stick to medical. We had representatives from both the USS Excalibur and USS Agincourt visit us this week. I think they were sussing out the cadets. I still don't know whether I want ship based medical or station based medical but either way, I feel I'm growing more confident as I go through the training sims. And, oh the sims!' Pause Entry Kim took a deep breath as the memory of the recent Borg sim came to her. It had been far more terrifying for her than any of the others. After all, no one knew about Bunnilings and the occasional shipboard hostage taker. Everyone knew the Borg. It was whispered about all through the academy of what they were capable of. Resume Entry One 'The sims are intense. No, delete last sentence. The training sims are pretty comprehensive in detail. I'm hoping I'm making a difference, but a lot of the time think that my actions are too slow or that I miss what appears to everyone as obvious. I've doubled my medical training to try and compensate for this, but I still get butterflies everytime the sims begin. I feel for the crews of the starships which have lost contact with Starfleet this week near Cardassia. They're in the real world and I have to remember that whatever happens on a sim, it's not real.' Pause Entry Kim kicked off her boots and padded over to her bed, still carrying the hot chocolate with her. Climbing into the sheets, she closed her eyes. 'Lights off' she said. The room was pitched into darkness, and Kim smiled, suddenly feeling comfortable and warm. Resume Entry One Additional. I went to the Redstar Nightclub on Saturday night. My first time with other cadets and staff. What a strange place. Cadet Pneuma is quite the entertainer with his guitar. They even have a jacuzzi in that place! I think I upset an orion female - never a good start - by accidentally chatting to her guy, although I was soon 'rescued' by another Vulcan cadet called Vantric. He gave me a lift to the academy training section but en route said he was a Tal Shial spy. I double checked my thoughts with him and he confirmed them, saying I was just to enjoy the ride. I drew out my phaser and fired at him. The first time I've ever used a phaser outside of a simulation. It was only set to stun, but I hate the damn things. Anyway, it turned out he wasn't actually a Romulan spy, but a fellow cadet. Boy did I feel an idiot. Still, I covered for him when Mr Spitfire questioned him, so I guess we're square. I can just imagine Dad's face if I could have told him. He'd have told me to set it on level 8!! My next training sim is on Friday evening, and I have another eight classes before that, starting with Engineering in the morning. I guess I'll be studying the nacelles again. End Entry One. Kim finished the hot chocolate and set the cup on her bedside table. She rolled over and snuggled into the pillow. 'Goodnight dad' She said, closing her eyes. Then she slept.
  3. Thanks guys :) I'll still be popping into the Redstar from time to time just to keep a hand in :) but the academy sessions and posting when I graduate would be pretty impossible for the minute. Take care, Kim
  4. And that was my log for now!!! I've just gotten a six months temp job working nights in a cleaning position so I won't be around much at all :) I pretty much have to take the job for the money but I'm still looking for a daytime job!!! I've absolutely loved simming, and hope to be back with you all soon!! Live Long and Prosper, Kim
  5. Cadet Log. Entry Five. Begin. I guess this is it then, for now at least anyway. I received news of my science award from the University of London. They've offered me a six month contract studying with an interstellar sample analysis team on a ship in the Gamma Quadrant. It's a privately chartered ship and the money is good, but it's not starfleet. I handed in my academy resignation to Admiral Hayes this morning. He said he would be sorry to see me go, but that he understood my decision. Pause Entry Kim looked around the now bare quarters. Her suitcase was already packed and the cadet uniform was laid out on the bed. She stared at it. One day, she'd be back. Resume Entry My transport to London arrives in an hour. I could have used the transporter but I need the time to think. I need to readjust to my decision. Admiral Hayes says that the Academy will wait for me and will still be here when I return, but that doesn't stop my disappointment at having to leave it behind for now. End Entry. Kim pulled the com badge from her chest and laid it on her bedside table. Looking back over the room she wiped a tear from her eye before leaving the room, the campus and the academy.
  6. Cadet Log. Entry Four. Begin 'Finally returned from the shipyards at Utopia Planitia. I hadn't realised it was gonna be a few days excursion, but it was well worth it. I got to try firing up the warp engines on the new Zephyr Class Runabout. That's really a piece of work. It's so sleek and shiny and generates a warp field which makes warp travel possible even at a moment's notice. We couldn't take it out though as it's still in development, but just seeing it docked was amazing enough. Pause Entry. Kim took a drink of hot chocolate and opened the letter which had been dropped into her pigeon hole. The mail mark was posted 'Vulcan'. She paused a moment over the seal, the wax on the flap old and crumbly. Then, changing her mind, she folded the unopened letter back up and placed it in her jacket. Resume Entry. I'm scheduled for the Academy on friday night and then again on Sunday night this week. I've turned my studies from medical to science now as it's something which has really grabbed my attention. I was so hooked when I took the CSCI role during the Borg sim. I've yet to try the tac or ops position and I haven't dared try the Engineering yet. Maybe I'll give them a shot on Friday evening if there's a place free. Tomorrow is the phaser practice again. I really can't take to it, especially since shooting the captain in the sim. It just still feels too odd. Anyway, an early night for me. Early start in the morning. End Entry. Kim pocketed her padd and took the envelope back out from her jacket. She paused over it again, before closing her eyes and putting her hands to her head.
  7. Pneuma's right. Try all of the posts :) I thought I'd never like science but it turns out I really really do! (Didn't care for security tho :P ) Kim
  8. Pretty cool log, Ensign :P Kim
  9. New

Thanks! :P Welcome to the Academy!! Hope you have fun!! Kim
  10. Welcome to the Academy!!! Kim
  11. Heya I just wanted to congratulate Louis O' Solion who graduated this week!! Well done Ensign!!! Kim
  12. Cadet Log. Entry Three. Begin. 'Just finished my security simulation. I think my dad would be mortified! We were invaded by tribbles and I think they must have brought some form of confusion gas with them because I was all over the place. From trying to bleach them out of the jeffries tubes with plasma bursts to attempting to beam them off the ship I felt just out of my depth. Maybe I should stick to science or medical. Security obviously doesn't flow in the genes!!' Pause Entry Kim blew out a sigh, still recovering her wits from losing them in the simulator. The hot chocolate was steaming on the table next to her padd, and she took a sip, noticing her hand was still trembling. She took a moment to calm her nerves. Resume Entry 'There's no wonder tribbles are loathed by the Klingon Empire. I don't blame em. And to think I used to own one of the chattering tribble toys my dad brought back from Risa when I was a kid! Funny how things change. Pneuma has been posted now. I'm not sure when he ships out, but I'm pleased for him. Finn Halek has also arrived at the Academy, so it's good to have someone familiar around too. He has his first academy tomorrow. Wonder if he's as nervous as I was on my first one.' Pause Entry She walked to the door and it opened automatically. Stepping outside, she had to duck aside as two cadets ran past her, laughing. They disappeared along the corridor and Kim made her way to the refectory. Resume Entry 'The Redstar is open tomorrow, which will be refreshing after the time at the shipyards. I'm gonna keep my eyes open for that Vatric guy. Something tells me he's one to watch! End Entry Three. Kim pocketed her padd, and walked into the refectory, her stomach already rumbling to the smell of the cooked chicken she could smell. Or was it tribble?
  13. Kirk: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Message, Spock? Spock: None that I am aware of, except of course, Happy Birthday. Kim
  14. Thanks. Actually I don't mind. :) I quite like the Academy :P Kim
  15. Heya I'm still in the Academy but want to specialise in Starfleet Medical. Should I work through all the different ship operations or am I ok to just stick to medical? I'd like to be able to pilot shuttlecraft and so on after graduation. Any suggestions?? Cheers Kim
  16. Of course you did. Getting Romulus and Betazed mixed up is something that happens to us all at the best of times. ::Still highly suspicious:: :P Kim
  17. TOS Where No Man has gone before. Still gives me the heebies! TNG Lower Decks. Fascinating insight into how the main crew are perceived. Would have loved to have seen more of these characters. The Naked Now. Also a big favourite. DS9 Hippocratic Oath. Loved it loved it loved it!! Voy Probably the pilot, Caretaker. Movies II: Wrath of Khan. Well cool. Kim
  18. Thanks!! Kim
  19. Hehehehehe, that is cool!! Kim
  20. oops, didn't mean to quote the entire first entry!! Kim
  21. Cadet Log. Entry Two. Begin: 'Just finished my engineering class and I'm still no nearer understanding the bio gel packs interlink with ship systems. I finally understood the nacelle designs though and my tutors are happy with my theory exam. The practical is tomorrow before my next Academy sim.' Pause Entry. Kim looked out across the cafe tables and the bay. The bridge spanned it as it had done for hundreds of years, of course with the added compressed air generators and finewire sprung suspension. She closed her eyes in the sun and felt a thousand miles away from academy simulations and intensive classes. She wondered what Vulcan must feel like if you closed your eyes on their warmest day. Resume Entry. 'Cadet Pneuma graduated the Academy yesterday. I think he's pleased but already chomping at the bit to get his first assignment. I'l speak to him more at the Redstar and see how he's getting on. We have our first off world field trip in two days. They're taking us to the Planitia shipyards as part of our engineering class so I'm looking forwards to that. The tutors have told us that each of us will have a chance to power up a warp engine whilst we're there so that'll be cool.' Pause Entry She fought to hide the smile which was breaking out at the thought. Taking a quick sip of synthale, she turned her attention back to her padd. Resume Entry 'I'm coming to terms with the medicines equipped as standard on Starfleet ships now. I think I've got all the anaesthetics and stimulants sorted as well as beginning work on a stable alternative to biomemetic gel as my Medical Assignment Project. My tutors say that though the gel is a controlled substance, they will allow me to do short burst tests to find a viable alternative. That's pretty much it for now. Looking forwards to my next sim tomorrow night.' End Entry Two
  22. Hey!! Congratulations on your graduation!!!! :) :P Kim
  23. Awww, thanks guys!! Kim
  24. ::brings a cake:: Not sure if Vulcans eat cake, but Happy Birthday anyway!! Kim
  25. Yayyy!!!!
