  1. Well, i've yet to see the new Batman. Each of the different actors seem to bring out different characteristics of the capped crusader. Each of them has their strongpoints. Never was a Hayden fan, imho he's ok or so/so. But then again, i'm more a Val Kilmer fan. Cool inteligence that delivers a charasmatic play or witty one-liner. This guy is definately a 'player' type. :P
  2. I'd say fresh meat here, but don't think Nerf would be a known species in the ST Galaxy Quadrant ;) (cringes in event of being taken to the holodecks for a medieval tar & feathering) Tuned into STSF Laura's Academy session earlier tonight (Tuesday), and shortly after HOD Messner's IKC Qob/Lakota... as TJ_Observer mind you, just observing. Both sessions were enjoyable to watch. Definately makes me want to join in soon! I've been roleplaying star wars d20 for the last few years at the SWRPGNetwork Holonet Forums, both co-running a game as well as playingin several (still do currently). I'm over at the mentioned forums by the same name, well, "Terras Jadeonar & Raven". Up until this past weekend with the Finale of Enterprise imenent, I wasn't sure in which way i'd be able to get a decent weekly fix of startrek. ;) Sad to say this past weekend was definately a downer, and from browsing the ST message boards I found my way here :D Suffice to say, my spirits were low over the weekend, and finding this site/game has risen them back to nominal levels of operation. I like the game scheduals presented - mid evening to later at night, and i'm in the Central TZ. Think I'll have to drop by the med-bay just to make sure though ;) Last couple nights I've already read the STSF's general gameplay guidelines, as well as ALL of Moose's beginner's guide threads. Even came across the 7 technical vocabulary lingo threads. I'll gve them a second read just to be sure I havn't missed anything. Even managed to read through a few session/mission logs. Though I havn't come across any personal written log types. I'll have to do a bit of thinking and come up with a character concept which is something of a fundamental I have for any character I've made for my SW games. Mainly name, species, bio/background. I really enjoy roleplaying, and starting with a basic concept always helps me to know the character better as well as get into character. When it comes to SW D20, the concept is also what I use to build the stats sheets from. So, apologies for the lengthly intro post. Typing 'mini-novellas' are sometimes a habbit of mine. I don't think I'll have any problems writting 'after-mission' logs. Should be interesting how long or detailed my character bio will be. (love star trek, just never rpg'd it before or did much creative thinking with st material) Well, having said all that I can think of for the moment, I'll definately tune into a few more sessions before I jump into the academy. I've just never had the luxry of rpg'ing outside of post-by-play games- meaning live session via tabletop or java/irc chat style. A few games and I think i'll get the hang of it! Without further adieu, I think I best get exploring a little more! - and thx for the warm invites from tonight's sessions :)
  3. Just checking in... So ya all know I didnt get lost in a holodeck program or transporter malfunction of sorts :D the praries out here have been going through some hot mid-day temps of 30degC, rendering the computer useless as a space heater contributing to the heat. Usually dosn't cool down here til well past sundown. Might have to move the computer downstairs or find a way to keep this small house cooler- 3 ceiling fans just arnt helping any. Argh. Wheres those starfleet engineers when ya really need'em eh? :P Lucky today's cloudy and cool. might have to move the computer downstairs but lack of any tables or stands down their is gonna prove interesting. Else, I wonder if i can use my ol' p133mhz laptop. will have to see tonight if i can. it'll be small wonders for older slower technology if it can handle the java chat, as it barely produces any heat- well, miniscule like a cup of tea compared to a stove like this monolithic 21" towercase is. Guess we'll find out possibly tonight. On a happier note, managed to get a steal of a deal at walmart - they had their summer load of dvd specials going. I managed to complete my TOS dvd movie serries, and grabbed eps IV, V & VI - the silver borderd collecters widescreen 2 disk edition set, for $12.50 (canadian) each. each are for for 4hrs entertainment, 1st watch, then second with audio commentary then the bonus content. I've yet to grab the rest as they are released in the same style set.
  4. If that resembles Al Bundy, then where's the Peg avatar sittin on the sofa chewin bon-bons, and Al with the hand-in-pants ^_^ Hmm.... Married with Vulcan....anyone? :P That or i need new glasses :D
  5. Well, with the cancelation of enterprise, i found my way here. so thats a good thing in a way. Not just for me but like others who'll possibly find other ways to get a startrek fix, be it things like these online forums & games or increased interest in other st media (books, merchandise etc). I don't wish a too long of absence in the ST franchise though. We need new people and possibly Coto of J&G Reeves-Stevens who can write well for story arcs, gripping development, and character depth. For a new film, I dunno what it should feature - which of the serries casts I dunno... If its like Nemesis or to an extend the movie right before it, i'd rather not have any movie at all... IMHO, I only liked First Contact for the TNG line of movies. As for Startrek needing a new format, I think it already achieved a good one in Enterprise season 4 - the continual episodes, mini-arcs (all linked, not self contained independant ones). Babylon 5 used this format - basically a telling of one big story over the spanse of several seasons from start to finish. BSG is also using this very format and look how popular its become. The biggest benifits are few writers, strong continuity, major character development. I know some of you probably wont like me for saying this but, some of the best things about TNG and the other serries were also the worst things about it: too many writers writing and submitting their story/episode scripts, making for episodes completely self-contained. In 2 seasons it took Trip & T'pol to become romantically involed, it took riker/troi/worf 7 years to ahieve. Overall, imho, the biggest changes needed for both next serries and movie, is B&B gone, Coto and/or J&G on the story & production team, and a producer who's good and experianced in the sci-fi genre, and knows what it takes to make a good show. This however does not mean you take someone like Bob Engels who did Twin Peaks and toss them into a sci-fi element and expect a stellar show (for those who dont know, B.E did Twin Peaks, and was brought on to replace Andromeda's season 1&2 producer Robert Hewlt-Wolfe, who then did a lousy job imho.) I wouldn't be worried about needing someone who knows startrek inside & out, theres people like Michael & Denise Okuda who's been with the franchise for a long time. All in all, i've got mixed feelings regarding the whole next movie or show thing. Yes I want more ST to watch, No I don't want to wait 5-10 years for it, Yes I want it to be a smash hit and quality engaging thinking show. We also need something of a story that's going to be new or un-explored or refreshing, and we need it from a good writing team - not a half dozen people each writing their own script and one gets chosen by the franchise execs.
  6. Those are really nice Taalix! ^_^ I'm almost curious if you'd be able to tackle my namesake as a pic :P (not the avatar side project i'm tinkering with on&off in my spare time, but the real me :D ) Though i guess it'll really boil down to when i graduate and see what i end up playing as, since right now its just TJ, yer stock no-name cadet :)
  7. LOL! The reality one would be cool, but the 'half & half & half' one is just hilarious! I can't even begin to imagine what that would even resemble ^_^ Made me laugh anyways :P As for shirts with st logos and such... years ago our local ST club made shirts and we made a similar ST emblem for the front, and our group name on the back which read something as: (shirt's in closet, too lazy to dig it out) The Undiscovered Province Society NCC-1990 Legend "Bridging the Gap" some other stuff yada yada yada The front was a TOS style solid deep yellow/gold emblem, with a thick green ring just outside it, and then the shaded deep yellow / gold wreath beneath it, or whatever its called... The shirt itself was high quality material, black for the main body and then colored under-cuffs for the neck & short sleeved arms - which we got in 4 cuff colors - red, yellow, green, and blue. Only thing startrek copywrited was that main design emblem itself... But of course, when they got the the shirts done, they were pre-ordered for the members of the club only - which we did wear for club events, meetings, and public st conventions and such. The shirts were very pricey, excellent looking, but I dunno what remains of the club today if there still even is one. I still talk to some friends who i've made from my time with the club.
  8. Thx Taalix ^_^ I'd do a male pic as well, but for this program, all the model face morphs are for the females. can't find any for the males. Poser & sims 2 body shop are alike in some aspect that both use 3d models and skin textures, being able to customize the face & such via sliders or dials. These ST face 'morphs' i'm using have been made by someone and require the female model. I even got a set of vulcan ears from a T'pol morph kit. If anyone's been wondering where i've been these past few days, and not in the academies... Been getting the soil ready for flowers and garden plants, then planted them. Then watering in the evenings. Still have to trim some of the shrub type plants, and some tree branches. I'll be back shortly though :P I'm missing simming already! Bummer, dunno if i'll be able to catch STSF Laura's academy tonight, hers are the most fun :D In other news, just installed another stick of memory since prices are at an all time low. Effectively doubled my memory capacity :) Will be good, to enable shorter 3d render wait times when working on the model shown above. I too have to get back to finishing it ;) First thing on the list is to add back in that Bajoran nose ridges ;) Also been tinkering with html code, getting a little layout ready for a padd lcars style web page for a character bio. sofar its a blank template in design. theres a few lcars web page theme kits around for free, which i've nabbed. though its taking a bit of custom code & designing to get it the way i want. Hmm, do i toss it up on my tiger.jadesfire or rpg1.jadesfire sites or make a new stsf.jadesfire for it?
  9. Nice find Kestra! Especially since they're hand drawn, or apear to be My only quip is the Enterprise NX-01 which I do not recal see'ing that rear room next to the turbo-lift just kinda behind the captain's chair... Half the bridge layout just dosn't seem right for some reason... Or is it just me?
  10. Yup, I manage to vote most of the winning results each time :P A buddy im'ed me the short list, but thanks for the extensive review. Missed the Spaceys show. But yeah, Spacecast is pretty much the canadian equivilant of the Sci-Fi channel (moderately close anyways, though Sci-Fi almost always premiers new tv shows by a few months than we get them- we got BSG season 1, 3 months after states) Dang, I dunno who i'm gonna vote for favorite female now, since Enterprise is done. ^_^
  11. Lol! some general star trek species i thought i'd try: and my own:
  12. MoonRox... posted by BluRox ... Fascinating... ;) *makes like an endangered tribble and scurries off...at best possible tribble speed* ok, serriously though, it is interesting how nasa's tapping out for inovative ideas via contests. They can host multiple inovation contests, get some inginuitive results in far less time than it'd take them to manually research and develop each one them selves :P
  13. Ahh yes! That be the book Kestra! I'll have to write both of them down so I remember next time I go to the book store. And your right, if all else fails- order it from amazon.
  14. I've no clue why some chefs do that, or why there are some things that can't be explained or changed because it "just is" ... :P Or very possibly because the chefs are just pure lazy B) As for asking us? Probably because in best regards to the forum comunity here, talking and chatting here is of same equality of chatting with yer bud over the phone? Just that you only need to mention it once and get several answers versus needing mention it each time you want a different answer ;)
  15. Seafood huh? Thats one quisine i'm allergic too. On the other hand, a T-bone steak and side salad I certainly wont refuse. After all, we are what we eat ;) (starts sharpening blades)
  16. Well, congrats on the new arrival ;) Theres one thing about laptops, its make sure you've got the important bells and whistles when you buy it :P Having looked at those specs, I know for a fact you got a good one B) Video cards are usually the weakest parts in the laptop, and its safe to say that Radeon X300 is a dandy little chip of a performer by today's current standards. They're not the muscle gamer cards but they can handle all of the games on today's shelves. And top notch video file & dvd playback to boot :D Lets just say i've got friends who've went out and bought new laptops, sparkling about them as they read me the specs. Usually everything sounds good until they get to the video card and i pretty much fall flat on the floor, unable to comprehend why they'd buy a lappy with such a weak old video card that was midrange 3 yrs ago, obsolete today...
  17. Dang, thats one book I didnt notice on the local book store shelf. I'll have to look for it next time! I usually like getting those specialty type books (like the Ferengi rules of aquisitions, etc -got both editions...) ;) Speaking of which, anyone ever saw or bought the official Star Trek Recipe Book? I saw it once, didnt have the cash for it at the time though :P . Had actual recipes to make stuff like Romulan Ale or the various quisine featured on the shows.
  18. poll choice: Combination. No secret my family knows. They know my dedication to watching Star Trek, for as long as i've been able to get Ds9, Voy, and these last four years 'Enterprise', I made it a well known point that I absolutely must be home by/in time for to watch it as the weekly episode aired, and that I would never settle for taping it and watch it later as a substitute. Back when I was in highschool (ds9/voyager days), I was already branded a 'geek' for either/or reading SW & ST books durring class & spares, talking computer techno talk (and knowing what i was talking about). Even for a few yearly photos, I wore my Ensign JG pips on my local startrek club-shirt. But have no fear, I did have the ultimate "geeks' revenge! I had a decently new system back then in those days, and my mom kept plunking money down on upgrading it to keep it top of the line- i needed only ask. I started with a color dot-matrix printer and went up to a very expensive color inkjet of the time, got a incredibly high-end profesional grade expensive flatbed scanner which could've bought a entire new top-end computer system for it's price alone. And I begun my revenge. I delved into a few image editing & graphics suite packages and quickly became an expert at scanning in images, "cutting them out" for use with whatever school project. I'm talking fully typed reports & essays - usually minimum 10 pages long, which included a full color cover/title page with graphics, images and graphics design. Any and all diagrams or photos i could find & scan or re-draw, you name it - it was all done and included in full color ink within the pages like a profesional document, which was neatly bound by those plastic spines and clear pages you can find at most stationary stores for document presentation. Considering everyone else was only had their pens and paper to hand-write their work, or be at the mercy of the old computer lab and early B&W laser printer, (no scanner either, library photo-copier at best). When it came to group assignment/projects, I usually prefered to work alone, doing the whole enchilada asignment myself. (nobody ever invited me into their groups anyways). Suffice to say, it was rewarding each and every time assignments were due in, everyone would stare openmouthed in daze & disbleief and look upon my work. Teachers couldn't help but compliment me, always gave me top marks on those assignments/projects. My whole perspective on it was "Brand me a geek? Fine. Can't be bothered to invite me into your project group? Have it your way, its your loss. I'll be my own self group, my own project boss, for in the end I'll always get top marks and best compliments, and the credit will be all my own." See? its rare but sweet revenge and can be had ;) As far as friends go, yeah most of us watch ST. I've always watched ST, joined the city's small but local ST club (years ago while it was alive). My friends on the other hand were/are "selective" ST fans. They only watched Trek when they figured it was good, but more often than not defaulted to Buffy or Angel ove Trek. None of them really cared to get into the books or join me with the club and sorts, and couldn't care less about doing the ritual 2hour movie premier pre-lineups for the ST movies. I did partake in those with the club and were some of the best nights i've ever had! All in all, my opinion has been this: I love star trek in any way I can get it. It dosn't bother me in the least bit if others know. If i'm ever asked, sure I'll profess, there's nothing to be shy about. Others can join me if they want. For all I ask is this: nobody disturb me for my weekly one hour fix. :P My only peeve is buying startrek merchandise, most notably when its from the toy section. Its at the cashiers, lost of them give me a funny look, though some can't resist acking "you still play with toys?" Grrr... I do happen to have a nice little collection of stuff, for the sake of collecting star trek and the toys these days are darned pricey. My pride and joy is the TOS figure "1701" boxed diorama bridge set. Usually sits atop of my computer desk hutch, though since moving around in the past few years, its safely packed in a storage box.
  19. Cool to hear! I've a decent but kinda small variety of ST books from over the years. Most of them have been good reads. There was one DS9 book I had a tough time reading through since IMHO was just plainly "dry". It was titled something called 'Prophets' or 'Prophicies' or 'Harbinger' or something, was a HardCover with Sisko & Ds9 on the front cover, and featured some grey haired old dude in a dark trenchcoat & brimmed hat that kept on bugging Sisko in the holodecks. To be honest, i've not read a ST book in quite a while. (I think my SW book collection has surpassed my ST collection) The last being from Shatner's own serries, the most current Duology- Captains Peril + Captains Blood. Have yet to read the second part. I've always enjoyed his books, reading about the good ol' James T Kirk just won't give up. Heres the serries in chronological order: (William Shatner with Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens) * Federations (alternative replacement to "Generations" movie) * The "Return" Serries: -- The Ashes of Eden -- The Return -- Avenger * The "Mirror Universe" saga: -- Spectre -- Dark Victory -- Preserver * Star Trek Nemesis Sequel: -- Captain's Peril -- Captain's Blood I have to ask - are the "Time too..." books fairly good reads as in they keep your attention for most of the time? Usually gets underway right at if not close to the start of the book? To me, those are the most enjoyable reads, definate page turners. Also cool to hear about the Voyager books. I've got the first 12 or 15 of them which was when I didnt yet have any possible means of getting cable or satelite to watch them on tv. I didnt know about those last few books - I mean i seen them on the shelf but didnt give them more than a quick glance (as i was uaually picking up the next latest SW novel at the time.) Hey, does "Homecoming" offer more of a serries finale sorta thing , better than the finale Voy tv episode (which found was rather short and lacking) ? At any rate, I think i'm definately going to be getting back into ST books more mainstream. IMHO the sw books are kinda losing my interest as i'm not very fond of the prequel era books.
  20. Thx Dumbass! ;) (lol, thats definately a choice name if i ever saw one. it feels funny adressing you without thinking i'm insulting someone :D ) can easily swap hair-do's , its otherwise the same character. As they say "its only cosmetics" Thats definately good hindsight FredM :P Well, part of the fun is the process of fidling around with the modeling program. Lots of it is cosmetics, being able to modify a stock human into klingon, vulcan/romulan, bajoran or possibly a few other humanoid choices. I could have sworn I've seen some feline adjusters also. Only thing would require the major re-write is the character's background. For this character in particular, i've not even begun writing it. In the last few years of SW rpg'ing, i've collected a small portfolio of character ideas and even written backgrounds that i've made and not used. Its a nice little stash to have handy, ready made characters or npc's. When I'm bored, i'll entertain my imagination, whip up a character. Sometimes i'll get a neat idea, further develop it into a character Either way, i'm not too worried. Unlike conventinal filing cabinets, the portfolio on my hd is practically bottomless. And i've no shortage in creativity. Thats why I love rpg'ing - its a never ending frontier awaiting to be explored, and its always flexing my creativity muscles B) Btw, from participating in my first academy sim on saturday night, as well as partaking in the Redstar lounge (was an awesome ring-fight too!) precursor to the academy sim... I'm really enjoying it! keeping up with the fast going action (once again, kind props to Joe Manning for the sideline hints/helpers refreshing my memory for the few command protocols i had seemingly forgotten at the start), I also had music playing in the background, eyes glued between screen and keyboard, while my mind's eye was picturing it all happening :) I didn't realize 2 hours had passed by that quickly! Btw2 Kansas_Jones, is that blade a TikLeth or a Mekleth? where ever i downloaded that prop from, its labeled as "Mekleth". Just a wee bit confused which is correct. I do know what a Batleth is, no mistaking that one!
  21. Poser , using the victoria 3.0 models, some hair style, and the rest being purely freeebie made ST items, textures, and props and facial morphs (like the bajoran & klingon nose/forehead features) just realized, i need to re-do the bajoran nose ridges. adjusted the klingon forhead stuff and those sorta muted out the nose part ;)
  22. Hmm, I thought that was just the camera angle... As for positioning, I can't really do a whole lot about it, save for maybe adjusting size and remozing perkiness (to an extent). I ought to do a full head-to-toe render, so the full pic can be seen. note to self: save often. been fidling with the hair all day &night, still cant get the exact same hairstyle. dont know what i did differently the first time ;)
  23. i'm liking the shorthair one too. just bugging me to no end that i'm trying to re-do that exact hair-do before it crashed :P ;) ... hundreds of dials, thousands of possibilities. Much akin to the Vulcan's proverb of infinate diversities, infinate probabilities B)
  24. You like huh? B) Poser 6 ... Victoria 3.0 , vic3 ultra catsuit. some various hair styles... and a bunch of freebie made startrek goodies for it like the TNG textures for the catsuit, the startrek various species facial effect morps :D Just really time consuming, theres hundreds of parameter adjustment dials. program crashed once before i could save and lost the one hair-do i styled - for the picture on the right side. been trying to recreate that exact 'do'.. Also gonna reduce the 'perkiness' a bit. This is why i like doing the character concept & design before playing the character. ;) Opinions, which do ya like more? long haired or the shorter hair? Working on 2 models, going to end up only using the one though. I've yet to get a better 'pose' rather than standing there with arms stretched out :P
