  1. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis |24 January 2020 1 June 2388 - Stardate 2388.153 TBS is 13 hours. The time is 0700 hours (7:00 am) Aegis Local. Medical, Engineering, and Science are still on the trail of the illness. They believe that an element in caffeine might be the trigger for extreme fatigue, nightmares, and hallucinations. As a precaution, Captain Chirakis has banned coffee and anything else containing caffeine in CnC. Aboard USS Missouri, personnel are experiencing allergic reactions, source unknown. Admiral Mulligan has informed Captain Chirakis that Ragor Tal, a powerful and merciless leader, is now connected to the Alien Alliance.
  2. Times One Thousand In engineering. Everything going wrong around me. Alarms going off. Nothing I did was making any difference. It was like the glitches times one thousand. ~Scott Coleridge Captain Chirakis arrived in CnC well before the change of watch, after her daily bout with Lt Klaxon in the security complex training room. Having been given orders to ignore her rank and fight to kill, the lieutenant had become quite an opponent and had mastered skills that could have easily ended her life. But this morning? His steps were uneven, his movements awkward, and his attacks slow. He was disoriented and often unable to focus. Kirel grabbed his shoulders, but he seemed to be in another world. “Lieutenant?” No response. She gave him a firm shake. “Klaxon! Respond!” His eyes glazed over. A trainer on the adjacent mat took firm hold just before Klaxon fainted. He called for assistance and beamed him to medical. Extreme fatigue had overtaken him, as it had many on Aegis. An hour later, the Officer of the Watch turned to the sound of the command lift. “Good morning, Captain,” he said on approach. “Situation normal.” “No ‘AFU’ this morning?” She asked, referring to SNAFU with a wry grin. Her glance swept the area: a ritual honed from SI-5 days, but still pertinent for any entry as far as she was concerned. “No ‘AFU’ this morning, ma’am. Coffee?” “Coffee?” she said sternly. “Decaffeinated, ma’am. It’s supposed to have everything… uh… all the bad stuff removed, ma’am.” Having just dealt with Klaxon, she didn’t trust anything remotely connected with coffee—at least until science and medical verified its use. “Remove the coffee, Lieutenant,” she said quietly, but firmly. “Remove everything even remotely connected to coffee, caffeine, or otherwise until Dr Pavilion pronounces it harmless. Understood?” “Yes, Captain.” After a curt nod she entered her office. Admiral Mullins of Federation Security would soon appear onscreen. In ordinary times they had reported weekly, but these were not ordinary times. Their weekly reports were now daily, encryption was beyond the norm, and security protocol was engaged in her office. Kirel’s desk viewscreen soon came alive with the image of Admiral Mullins. He seemed weary, as though he’d been awake all night, and a man of his age certainly did not need to. It triggered an alarm, like waiting for the next shoe to drop. “Good morning, Kirel. You’re early.” “As are you, Admiral. Should I ask why, or should I leave well enough alone?” The admiral’s slight grunt turned into a smirk. “Well enough alone is best. Report?” “Yes, Admiral.” She leaned forward to rest her elbows on the desk and thumb through her tablet. “Regarding glitches on station, those have surprisingly disappeared. However, we are now dealing with ...” She checked her list. “... approximately fifty three crew and some families who have extreme fatigue, strange dreams—they call them ‘nightmares’—and hallucinations. Science and medical are working diligently to diagnose the problem. “USS Missouri’s work on the Alien Alliance stealth ship is progressing. They have broken the ship’s code. Apparently a species similar to our gremlins—small, ignorant, and naive—was convinced to take the ship and breach Aegis’s space, for reasons unknown. No personnel of the Alien Alliance were aboard. “Missouri also reports that their personnel have fallen ill with symptoms similar to, but not the same as ours. So far, their illness presents itself as an allergic reaction. Captain d’Ka will give you more information. That is all I have at the moment, Admiral.” As Kirel relaxed in her chair, Admiral Mullins nodded into a dire expression, staring at the viewscreen. His exhaustion had turned suddenly to grief. His hands folded, he leaned forward and took a moment to gather his thoughts. “Thank you, Kirel.” He paused again, wiping a hand down his face before continuing. “Kirel…. two of our best operatives were taken hostage... and brutally tortured for information. Knowing these men, I doubt that they revealed anything. What was left of their bodies was bagged and sent to Starfleet Command with a note from….” Mullins stopped to stare at her. “... Ragor Tal.”

  4. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis |17 January 2020 31 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.152 No TBS. The time is 1600 hours (4:00 pm) Aegis Local. Aegis Medical, Science, and Engineering personnel continue to pin down the reason for illness aboard Aegis. Several ideas are being discussed. Strangely enough, the virus seems to be selective. So far, Tarisa, Miana, Dr Pavilion, Dr Sandero, Lt Kenyon, and most engineers have not succumbed to the infection. Captain Chirakis is in the medical complex with information that the USS Missouri’s crew has also experienced random illness. At the moment, the captain’s concern goes beyond the illness, believing that it might be a planned attack by the Alien Alliance. However, if that were the case, all personnel on the station would be infected, and the virus would strike simultaneously without warning.

  8. Beyond Reality Uncharted Space - Stardate 2388.152 Drakkor drifted silently while its pilot took scans and gathered data. SI-5 Director Torak had several operatives investigating a questionable area of the Morass Nebula. As one of those operatives, Chirakis Kirel, had cut across uncharted space to investigate a certain debris field. As was noted in the director’s report, the field spread across several parsecs and was dense enough to prohibit passage. Scans within the field registered several starships of varied size and design. All were built of a strange material and were of strange configuration. The computer’s attempt to extrapolate possibilities regarding cause, origins, and various other parameters regarding these ships came up with nothing—not exactly a report that Director Torak would expect. Kirel relaxed against the pilot’s seat and stared into space. She had wrapped up her investigation and report, and yet she felt compelled to stay in the debris field. Watching the field drift through space piqued her curiosity. Surely there were more questions to be answered, especially regarding the ships that could not be identified. So she stayed to drift with the debris—quiet, solemn, and interesting. The soft ping of a proximity alarm drew her attention to an incursion just off her starboard wing. Cutting all power, she watched a shuttle of strange configuration pass beneath Drakkor. Eventually it turned and made another pass approximately two kilometers distant: much too close. Its grid pattern seemed spoke of searching for something. Several hours later the vessel left the area, leaving Kirel adrift and deep in thought. One hour became two as Drakkor continued to drift with the field, eventually coming to a Class-D planetoid that seemed to be inhabited. Finding no vessels in the area, Kirel maneuvered slowly and cautiously to investigate, yet she still knew not what urged her on. The communication system crackled and a distant call, barely audible, came through: “Cuidigh liom, Eru.” Interesting. “Computer, scrub and replay.” Compliance. “Cuidigh liom, Eru.” “Translate.” Translating. “Help me, Eru.” “Language?” Terran Gaelic. Gaelic? An ancient Terran language spoken within a distant nebula that was filled with undamaged drifting vessels that showed no signs of battle and was surrounded by a dense fog? “Computer, point of origin?” Point of origin is Class D planetoid. “Distance?” One parsec. Kirel powered up and took manual control to maneuver through the thick fog that grew more dense as they approached the planetoid. Drakkor did not mind, nor did its master. In fact, the fighter seemed to come alive. It was now entity that merged with her as they maneuvered toward the cry for help. The call for assistance continued, occasionally shifting from from Gaelic to Faroese, then Frisian, and a few others that neither she nor the computer could decipher. Kirel’s thoughts began to spin. She suddenly lost her focus: the reason for landing on the planetoid, her reason for being there, and her place in time. Everything merged with the fog. Nothing seemed rational. Everything was out of place and out of time.... “Computer, current stardate.” Twenty-nine eighty-seven point two one six. A full examination of the console verified the computer’s response. She sighed. “Computer, access local buoys for accurate stardate.” The current stardate is twenty-nine eighty-seven point two one six. The current date on Acetus I is the first day of Oergon in the year 1378. The current date on…. “Stop.” Silence. “Computer, current Federation date, Sky Harbor Aegis relative.” The third day of Augustus in the year twenty-three eighty-seven. Her head began to spin…. “Captain?” A distant voice slowly parted the heavy mist. She began to shake it off. “Captain! Wake up!” Her eyes opened, but would not focus. Her arms reached out for Drakkor’s control panel. A hand firmly grasped her forearm, resulting in a black eye for Lt Garand who was trying to settle her down. A cold, wet compress draped around the back of her neck. Someone saying, “Hold her down. In this condition she could be deadly,” brought her back to reality. She was completely awake, but thoroughly confused. An hour ago Kirel had been reviewing intelligence reports in Aegis’s Security Complex and had fallen asleep. Lt Garand found her leaning on a console and had been calling her name with no response. He then called Sgt Nunez and Corpsman Meier and informed the Medical Complex. “Captain, talk to me,” said Meier, checking her vital signs. “It’s Meier, Captain. Talk to me.” After staring at the surroundings Kirel asked, “What is the current stardate, Lieutenant?” Meier’s expression turned skeptical. “The current stardate is 2388.152, ma’am. Are you alright?” After a deep breath and a slow exhale, she nodded. “I am now, Lieutenant. I am now.”

Engineering and science are still dealing with the virus that caused chaos throughout the station. They aim to harden the station systems against further attacks of that nature. Cdr Korjata has been released from the medical complex, but will not return to duty until he is cleared. A Starfleet Command Engineer is in the medical complex after his toolbox landed on his head. He insists that a “drop dead gorgeous” women distracted him when she kept passing by. However, no woman was in that area. Security is checking surveillance footage to verify his claim.
  11. Welcome Back Aegis Medical Complex 2100 hours Jake blinked against the overhead lighting and squeezed his eyes closed tight. He wanted to puke. Lights. Strange bed. Coffee. Someone standing over him. Why? Need to finish the assignment and get out from under this stupid console ‘cause shift is about to end and the boss will kick ass if I don’t…. "Lieutenant!" Whoa! Man, that voice is loud. "Shuddup. Got a job ta do….” he said, wincing against the sound. "Wake up, Lieutenant. Talk to me." “I am talkin’ to you, Ensign!" he growled, “and this is not the time to be talking. Now get a move on!” Jake was gettin’ hot. Really hot. Ready to bolt from ‘under the console’ and pound some sense into the ensign’s head. "Welcome back, Lieutenant," he heard again, and that was the kicker. He was ready to explode. "Damn," said Jake, finally opening his eyes to ‘roll out from under the console’. But there was no console, just a few sheets. Taking hold of them, he began to pull himself up… ...and the room began to spin. "Easy, Lieutenant," someone said as a strong hand took firm hold of his arm and eased him back onto the pillow. The voice was vaguely familiar, almost like…. "Commander?" Jake struggled to focus. “Take it easy,” said Drexler as he motioned to a nearby nurse. “You got quite a bump on your head. In fact, it’s so big we might have to name it after you.” “Sir?” he responded, puzzled, as he squinted to focus on the commander, then Lt Mike Jersey, corpsman/engineer who stood to the side. “Where am I, sir?” Drexler pulled up a chair and relaxed into it, arms crossed. “Aegis Medical Complex. I’m told that you had quite a sizable toolbox land on your head and knock you out. Do you remember anything about it? Can you tell me how that happened?” Jake’s puzzled expression remained as he struggled to remember… well… anything. “Not really, sir. It’s all fuzzy. But what I do remember is … this woman. Red hair. And drop dead gorgeous, sir. She reminded me of this girl at the academy, sir. She just kept comin’ around, smiling, like she was trying to catch my attention so we could go…well…somewhere alone, sir.” Drexler glanced at Jersey. “So.. red hair, good looking, Starfleet uniform?” “Yes, sir.” “Was the insignia like yours, or the regular Starfleet?” “Don’t remember, sir. That’s… uh… not exactly what I was looking at.” After a moment of thought, Cdr Drexler nodded congenially and pushed himself from the chair patting Jake gently on the arm. “We’ll look into it, Lieutenant. Let us know if you remember anything else, but most of all, take it easy. Rest. Got it?” “Aye, aye, sir.” * * * * * * Upon exiting the medical complex, Cdr Drexler stopped and turned to Mike, who had accompanied Jake to the medical complex. “Nothing makes sense,” Drexler mused rhetorically, gesturing as he spoke . “Supposedly this beautiful woman was wandering through your team’s area, but no one else saw her?” “No one else, sir.” “And this happened when?” “Treatment began at 1534, sir. Released to medical at 1539.” Drexler took a deep breath then nodded on a slow exhale, lips pursed. “Well… as soon as security finishes checking their surveillance footage we’ll know for certain if there was a women down there. Until then, we wait.”

I’m glad he was available. mimipavilion: ::nods:: Chirakis: ::nod:: Continue. Johnson Kenyon: ::puts down PADD:: Commander, you're saying I'm over thinking this? Scott Coleridge: I like that you theorize big. ::smiles:: It's a good trait in a senior engineer. But sentience is only one theory of many. Nijil tr'Korjata: :: to noip :: This is a nice place. Amanda Davis PhD: What he needs most now is rest. We will keep you informed. Johnson Kenyon: Oh. I agree. It's just a very unique situation. Amanda Davis PhD: Mike> Yes, ma'am. Thank you, ma'am. Scott Coleridge: The difference between our job as engineers versus the job of the scientists is that we need to put theories into practice. As much as it might intrigue us on an intellectual level, we need to focus on what we can do and leave it to the scientists to investigate what the virus *is*. Amanda Davis PhD: Mike> ::after taking another look at Jake, he exits the trauma unit and the medical complex to return to work:: Scott Coleridge: So whether or not the virus is sentient, we know it *is* adaptive. Proceeding on that basis, consider the best antivirus you can develop to fight it. Scott Coleridge: Why not turn the virus against itself? mimipavilion: The ensign... Wright mentioned a female engineer. Well, the Command Engineers have no female engineers and I checked with our group of engineers, specifically the females on duty. They were else were. Wright mentioned red hair... none of our red haired female engineers where even on duty. Johnson Kenyon: ::nods:: I'm hoping to create an encoding device for the power relays that prevent their signals from passing to data without a code. Johnson Kenyon: Turn the virus against itself? Scott Coleridge: That's a good idea and improves our security overall. Chirakis: :::ponders that::: Nijil tr'Korjata: :: looks at his Chrono, lays back on the grass :: Scott Coleridge: The virus can only adapt based on the feedback signals it receives. You and Tarisa figured out how to run a copy of the virus in a simulated environment. Johnson Kenyon: I'm also setting up a way to modulate the power to sort of damage the viral code if it is in the power stream. Scott Coleridge: Why not replicate that result on the station-level? Figure out how to ensure the virus receives false feedback so that we control how it adapts. mimipavilion: So that made me think we may have an impostor on board. Scott Coleridge: Then it's just a matter of making sure the only thing it disrupts is itself. Chirakis: An impostor. :::pondering::: Johnson Kenyon: ::to Coleridge:: It's a brilliant idea. I'll see if Tarisa can help simulate it. Nijil tr'Korjata: :: wakes up :: What...? The park? Scott Coleridge: Good. 13. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis |20 December 2019 29 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.150 TBS is 8 hours. The time is 1500 hours (3:00 pm) Aegis Local. The station is fairly quiet, except for a few minor problems at the bar. Bravo shift is on duty. Most of Alpha shift has left CnC, but some remained to catch up on work. Captain Chirakis never seems to leave. Lt Kenyon is working on countermeasures regarding the virus: how it transports from one area to another and how it can be contained. After honing the skills of the PsiCorps, Captain d’Ka has returned to Missouri. Security remains on high alert. Commander Korjata appears confused. He talks to himself and mutters as he wanders through CnC. Dr Pavilion has returned to duty. She has taken him for a medical and psychological evaluation. Starfleet Command Engineer Jake Wright was transported to the emergency section of the medical complex to be evaluated for brain injury.
  14. Eyes Wide Closed Starfleet Command Engineer Jake Wright slid under the console to check for flaws or areas that could be attacked by the technological virus. Problem was that the console was bigger than most, and a heck of a lot different. Squirming your way under it was a job in itself so Jake left his toolbox on top, planning to slip out, change tools or grab another, then slip in again. But Jake was having a problem focusing lately. In fact, he could hardly control himself. He’d work a little, then his thoughts would shift to a female engineer who passed by occasionally. As a young, single man, you can imagine where his thoughts wandered. He tried to fight them off and focus on his work, but she kept coming back. He just couldn’t get her out of his mind. Damn… she’s... gorgeous. No. She’s more than that. She’s drop dead gorgeous! Tall, lithe, and slender, with immaculate skin. Her uniform pressed tight against her body in the most important places, almost like she wanted to…. No. Not goin’ there. Nope, nope, nope. But damn… here she comes again, walking right past him. Sliding out from under the sturdy, expanded console, Jake completely ignored the console’s frame and smacked his head against it so it almost knocked him out. The sudden movement rattled his toolbox just enough to send it over the side and onto his already bruised head. His shout and the massive thud along with the tools scattering across the decking echoed down the passageway toward SFC Engineer Manny Lopez. Manny looked up from his work and scanned the area. He spotted Jake not exactly in the right position, along with a trickle of red dropping on the deck. "Jake!!” he shouted, running toward him then skidding to a halt. “Gees, man. What the hell were you doing? Heard the thud all the way down the passageway! And you’re bleeding all over the place, man!” Within seconds, two more SFC Engineers jogged in their direction. Mike Jersey, a tactical corpsman before entering engineerhood, grabbed the bulkhead med kit and dropped down next to Jake. “Seeeeit, man,” said Mike, his expression focused as he checked him over, then opened the kit to retrieve the proper gear, noting that Jake's eyes were dilated. “What the hell were you doin’, man?” “Uh… looking at someone?" he replied listlessly. "I think? Or... something? Don’t quite remember.” “Well hold still,” Mike said calmly. “You’re gonna be okay, just gotta stop that bleed so you don’t make a trail all the way to medical. Lopez,” he called without turning. “Get us a transfer to medical, and do it now.” “I’m good, Mike,” Jake insisted, his words slurred. “Seriously. I’m good. I’ll make it to ...” His face paled, and he relaxed against Mike’s leg, trying to catch a breath. “Yeah, right. What the hell were you doin’ anyway, besides checkin’ out the ODN lines?” “Just looking at….” Jake began, wondering what to say. “Uh... just watching this gorgeous… thing. I mean… girl? Woman? Yeah, she was good. As good… might be….” He passed out as the transfer to medical came through. Jake and Mike disappeared. Lopez and SFC Engineer Jim Strickland—aka Strick—stood there, dumbfounded, staring at the somewhat bloody decking for a few minutes, waiting for the cleaning droid. Finally, “We got female engineers?” asked Lopez skeptically. Strick shook his head slowly. “Not with us. But ...” He shrugged. “Maybe the station has some?” “But we’re the only ones working down here, right?” Manny’s brows knit and his eyes swept the area as though he might see ‘this woman’ any minute. “Not down here, man. I mean, if he saw her we should’a seen her.” “Yeah, man. We should’a seen her. But I didn’t. And you didn’t” Another few seconds passed before Strick asked, “He’s not on hooch, right?” “What?” Lopez snorted. “Jake on hooch? He never drinks, except for juices and stuff. You know… vegan.” A long pause, and Lopez shook his head, muttering, “This is gonna be one hellofa report for Commander Drexler.”
  15. Residual Concerns They shared the same concerns: the Stone of Gol, V’Mal’s collaborators, and the Lore Kings’ transwarp conduit, to name a few. Hopefully they could formulate at least one plan. ~Cayne & Chirakis, Far From Over - 2018 Several hours after inspecting what was left of the aliens’ delta-wing black stealth-hulled starship—the remains of which spread across an entire landing deck on USS Missouri—and listening to engineering and science personnel regarding their findings, Captain Chirakis returned to the station. Captain d’Ka accompanied her to watch the pending security drill, especially the newly established PsiCorps. Not long ago, the rogue Vulcan, V’Mal had used his psychic abilities to take control of Aegis and retrieve the Stone of Gol. The villain pulled 32 security officers into insanity, resulting in their deaths. Since then, measures had been taken to counteract a similar situation in the future. Captain Chirakis and Commander Cayne, with the permission of Starfleet Command, gathered the most focused psychics on Aegis, trained them, and formed the PsiCorps. Even at this late hour, Chez Antonio was bustling with patrons. Captain d’Ka and Kirel weaved their way through the restaurant, occasionally pausing to greet patrons, and eventually arriving at the captain’s reserved table. Their purpose was not so much enjoyment as it was to give d’Ka the opportunity to scrutinize the clandestine PsiCorps personnel who were assigned to the commerce deck. The proprietor, Antonio, was congenial as always. Their tables were set in a strategic area, not only giving them a full view of the commerce deck, but allowing them a swift exit if necessary. Kirel noticed several undercover security officers at the bars—as usual—and a few perusing the stores or having coffee on the mezzanine. “Enjoying yourself, Kh’éile?” said Kirel with a minimal smile as she relaxed in the armchair. He seemed to be concentrating, focused in a casual way as he scanned the crowd. “I am,” he began quietly. “It’s very interesting. It isn’t often that I get a chance to observe and report.” Snifter in hand, he swirled the brandy carefully and glanced in her direction. “I see a few… soiléir.* They draw attention, though probably not enough for suspicion. And a few… síceaic,” he said, using Sindar to keep the conversation private. “And who might that be?” D’ka leaned forward into an impish smile. “I can send you images.” Setting her brandy aside, she leaned toward him… mirroring his smile while her eyes mirrored caution. “Just don’t fry my brain.” It took a few seconds for the images to form, so he was being careful. “And who are those we should deal with?” “The first few.” Relaxing in her chair, she closed her eyes for a moment and the images reappeared “I see,” she sighed thoughtfully. “I have been watching them as well. I’ll take them aside tomorrow. Would you assist with the Síceaic while I work with the others? That is… unless you need to be elsewhere.” He gave a slight chuckle and relaxed in the armchair. “We will be here for a while. Of course I will assist.” _______________________ Kh’éile - bond mate Soiléir - undercover Síceaic - empaths

  17. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis |13 December 2019 29 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.150 TBS is 13 hours. The time is 0700 hours (7:00 am) Aegis Local. Engineering and science are diligently working on locking down the system virus that has been jumping from one area of the station to another. Security will be in the crosshairs of Captains d’Ka and Chirakis as they smooth out the PsiCorps and undercover security personnel. Otherwise, the station has been fairly quiet.

  20. Contemplation I and my bosom must debate a while, and then I would no other company. ~William Shakespeare ~Henry V, Act IV, Scene 1 Above the saucer section of Sky Harbor Aegis, several pinnacles reach into space to receive or deliver data for the benefit of Aegis security. Inside the station dome, on decks one through five, specialists monitored subspace communication. Specialists on decks six through ten were responsible for sensor monitoring and analysis. Above deck one was a little-known area that was used for tower maintenance. The area above Deck 1 was small, but comfortable and quiet. A viewport circled its rim. Kirel leaned against the viewport and stared into the void, a deep nothingness except for faint points of light: stars, galaxies, and nebulae. They appeared peaceful but were often tainted or destroyed by their inhabitants. Hopefully that would not be the destiny of Aegis nor TKR 117. The present situation concerning the Alien Alliance had taken its toll on Aegis command, especially on its commanding officer. As an SI-5 operative, Chirakis Kirel could deal with one puzzle at a time. As Aegis’s commanding officer she had been forced to deal with an onslaught of information that threatened to drag her into mental chaos. Too many thoughts. Too many incidents that seemed to point in one direction and suddenly pointed to another: the Alien Alliance. The disappearance of the Breen freed millions of slaves. Some were docile, desiring a quiet life in freedom. Others formed gangs, cartels, and syndicates. Now known as the Alien Alliance, they were determined to conquer the galaxy, beginning with Aegis and the Joint Allied Powers. The first major encounter with the Alien Alliance came when the Adriatic was pulled into a transwarp ribbon that threw them to the far edge of Alliance space almost instantly. When Alien Alliance ships caught them warping through their space on their return to Aegis, they gave pursuit but did not enter Joint Allied Powers space. Why not? Why did they not pursue? Two flights of A-85 Crusaders broke into her thoughts when they shot out of Missouri’s flight deck, swerved into formation, shifted into stealth mode, and disappeared. Missouri was on guard, as was the D’deridex class RSE Praetor and several birds of prey. They furnished defenses. Kirel needed answers. Pushing off from the viewport, she began to pace. Her list was expansive, much to consider. Glitches in the station's systems, a star’s EM pulses that almost devoured Argos II and Nei’rrh, the Gremlins and their ignorance, the Crow’s cartel below decks, the formidable Alien Alliance ship manned by ignorant non-humanoid beings attempting to attack Aegis, the planet Drakel’a that quickly shifted from a small way-station for organized crime to a major Alliance hub, the planet An-Ward and its delta-shaped black stealth hull, and Ragor Tal…. “Kh’éile.” D’Ka’s psionic call jerked her out of her thoughts. “What?” she growled at the interruption. “You cannot resolve these situations immediately, nor can you do it alone. Trust yourself. Trust those those around you. The solutions will come.” Bracing herself on the viewport, her anger slowly subsided. Very slowly. Eventually her expression relaxed into a slight smile. “You heard my conversation with Commander Coleridge.” “Of course. As your bondmate, it is my right. Your words to him were wise. I suggest you do the same.”
  21. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 6 December 2019 28 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.149 TBS is 6 hours. The time is 1700 hours (5:00 pm) Aegis Local. Aegis’ engineering and science continue to work on hardening our defenses against the virus. Though the virus seems to be dormant, it could emerge again as a more powerful entity. USS Missouri engineers continue working on inspecting the massive delta-wing Alien Alliance ship that attacked Aegis space. So far Missouri has broken their code, but the composition of the hull and the configuration of other ship elements have yet to be determined. Medical personnel are examining the aliens that manned the ship. Though the ship was originally manned by humanoids, the aliens who manned the ship were non-humanoid, similar to our Gremlins.

  23. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 22 November 2019 28 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.149 TBS is 2 hours. The time is 1000 hours (10:00 am) Aegis Local. For the moment, Aegis has settled down to a normal routine. Hopefully it will stay that way for a while. Science and engineering are working on systems that will prevent a virus from suddenly attacking more crucial areas of the station. Captain Chirakis is consulting with Admiral Solokov and Captain Raza of SI-6 regarding the Alien Alliance and the possibility that they are testing the waters.
  24. Puzzle Pieces Someone went to a lot of trouble to design and plant [the virus] on Aegis. And we find it and fix the problem without more than a few sleepless nights and some replicator malfunctions? There's something else, another piece to this puzzle that we haven't spotted yet. ~Commander Scott Coleridge Aside from a thoughtful sigh, the captain's office was silent as she, Admiral Solokov, and Captain Raza considered possible containment strategies. The likelihood of an attack on Aegis space or the station itself seemed to be growing bit by bit, piece by piece, a few things here, a few things there, distractions that could suddenly lead to a serious threat. Like the raptors of ancient earth, the Alien Alliance seemed to be distracting from the front, gaining their attention, and then attacking from both sides. Thank Kahless for Jorahl's exceptional defense grid, thought Kirel as she studied Raza and Solokov’s expressions, onscreen from Rendezvous October. "What incidents do we have so far, Captain?" The admiral's question broke the silence. After a deep breath, Kirel flipped open her slate. “So far we have several, Admiral. Our most recent is fairly minor: the discovery of building materials left in the unfinished area of the station. Security pinned down a man called Crow, the radical leader of a cartel. How he intended to use these materials is still unknown, but they have been confiscated.” “Ah… and the small, apparently smelly alien species that assisted has been given asylum, correct?” “Yes, Admiral. We have no way to return them safely to their home world.” Kirel glanced questioningly to SI-6 Director Raza, who waved her on. “Next, I believe that you are familiar with the latest alien ship that attempted to attack Aegis?” “Yes. Captain d’Ka informed us. Quite a ship, as I understand. Delta-wing, black stealth hull. Interesting configuration. Apparently it will take quite a while for them to decipher the codes, identify the composition of the hull, and analyze their method of travel, not to mention why they sent an inexperienced crew directly into an attack zone.” “Expendable, Admiral.” Kirel paused as Solokov sighed and hung his head. “Missouri’s physicians have yet to determine the species. I tend to believe that they are similar to the gremlins: naive, innocent, and believing everything they were told.” “Humanoid species?” “No, Admiral... which leads to another mystery. When the ship docked at An-Ward, the species that unceremoniously kicked the presumed drunkard, Commander Cayne, out the door and into the sand was definitely humanoid, similar to terrans.” Raza’s hand went up as he leaned forward, his lips pursed in thought. “Kirel, wasn’t that ship able to beam through cloaks?” “It was, and it is probably still able to do so. However,” Kirel continued, holding up a hand to the inevitable question, and knowing that she would have to choose her words carefully. “Captain d’Ka is aware and has… ways of preventing such things… as well as other things that might pose a danger to his ship, his crew, Aegis, or anyone else in the area.” “And that is why they took the alien ship aboard Missouri and why they are in high orbit?” “Indeed.” “Very well, Captain. Continue.” The slate scrolled down to the very first incident. “Significant glitches in several areas of Aegis. They hit random areas of the station and came to a screeching halt, as some call it. The first was a red alert klaxon that locked all doors, essentially holding the entire station hostage. “Then the replicators decided to play chef,” She looked up. “Not my wording, but appropriate. After 38 hours of chasing shadows —again not my words—Starfleet Command sent Commander Eli Drexler with 30 plus engineers to assist. His words were, Our biggest problem is finding and losing. We start tracking something, almost get it, and it disappears into something else, almost like it has a mind of its own. One minute it targets the replicators, the next minute the replicators are fine and the klaxons start blaring. Like kids playing a game. “Eventually, engineering and science collaborated to disarm the virus. Taking that into account, I am inclined to agree with Commander Coleridge, that we conquered the virus too easily and that there is more to this than meets the eye.” Solokov leaned back, stroking his chin for a moment before asking, “Testing the waters?” “Anything is possible, Admiral. Eventually we will find out.”

Nijil tr'Korjata: They have been in teams of their own, not mixing with ours just yet. Do au have concerns I should observe? Cdr Wyatt Cayne: One thing I was thinking about the other night is how easy it may be for them to infiltrate us. Scott Coleridge: Not as such. I just want to make sure they're more help than hindrance at this critical juncture. Scott Coleridge: Do you need any other resources right now to help with preventing more glitches? Nijil tr'Korjata: Engineering is tricky. Too little and things get out of control...too many and things get out of control. Nijil tr'Korjata: The new protocols will take some time to learn our system, so I'm limiting the processing for a bit. Let me know if au need more. Chirakis: That is always a threat, Commander. Lt Garand is aware. Security is doubled. Scott Coleridge: Understood. Scott Coleridge: Between you and me…. Chirakis: :::watching Jylliene overwork herself at OPS with so many ships coming and going, she moves on::: Scott Coleridge: I'm emphasizing the new security push because I think that we beat this virus a little too easily. Jylliene: ::more lists:: Chirakis: :::stops next to her, not wanting to disrupt her train of thought::: Johnson Kenyon: ::at a new station, checking through the work load:: Nijil tr'Korjata: We got a cold when we could have gotten a flu Scott Coleridge: Someone went to a lot of trouble to design and plant it on Aegis. And we find it and fix the problem without more than a few sleepless nights and some replicator malfunctions? ::shakes his head:: There's something else, another piece to this puzzle that we haven't spotted yet. Nijil tr'Korjata: If we continue with the metaphor. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Yes and I am watching each of them. No doubt the civilians have noticed. Not that they thought the replicators were out to get them. Tae'Lynn Dran: ::finishing the last report:: Tae'Lynn Dran: ::Looking over next series of tests and finds they are running low on samples to test:: Nijil tr'Korjata: I plan to change the shift rotations as well, so since we have more people we don't need so long a shift. Rest is important. Chirakis: Should I call in assistance, Commander Kital? Tae'Lynn Dran: ::making a note to rummage around the shops for anything interesting the locals have found:: Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Looks at Kital :: Jylliene: ::Shakes head:: Not necessary at the moment, ma'am. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Thought that Nijil fellow was a lucky man :: Jylliene: But I'll keep you informed. Nijil tr'Korjata: On that note, is your replicator functioning? Chirakis: ::nods::: Very well. Scott Coleridge: Keep me apprised of those changes. Jylliene: Thank you, ma'am. Scott Coleridge: It still doesn't make a proper Andorian split omelette, but that's normal, so I suppose I have to call it functioning. Chirakis: :::not wanting to return to her office and possibly be accosted by Starfleet Command, she takes her place on the command chair and pulls up the information from there:: Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Notices Chirakis sitting in the chair, the least used cushion on all the station :: Nijil tr'Korjata: I will put our top people on that Captain. Chirakis: :::but she can't shake the idea that the aliens must have forced others to make a kamikaze charge on Aegis and lost their lives because of it::: Chirakis: 10:50 PM Scott Coleridge: ((Was that directed to me, Nijil?)) Chirakis: (You have been promoted, Scott. Take my place and I can relax.) Nijil tr'Korjata: (ie) Dacia Sandero: (yay) Scott Coleridge: ((Now I'm the one having nightmares.)) Chirakis: ((And I am not ::grin:: )) Scott Coleridge: ::Nijil, dryly:: Appreciate it. You have no idea how much I'm craving a good Andorian split omelette. There's a restaurant that almost gets it right, but they add too much mucus. Scott Coleridge: I'll let you get back to work now. Nijil tr'Korjata: Oh. :: recoils a bit :: Chirakis: ::paging through information, finding the command chair somewhat relaxing, and better than her sequestered office::: Nijil tr'Korjata: (Nijil forgets things) Jylliene: ::glances up at the big screen, then back down to her console, updates a few more items:: Johnson Kenyon: ::continues reading through reports:: Chirakis: 10:55 PM Scott Coleridge: ::leaves engineering:: mimipavilion: ::trying to get things organized and such:: Johnson Kenyon: ::typing responses to reports and giving further direction:: Chirakis: =/\==/\=PAUSE SIM=/\==/\= Chirakis: =/\==/\=PAUSE SIM=/\==/\= Chirakis: Thank you Chirakis: Well done, crew. Chirakis: TBS will be 2 hours. Chirakis: Comments from you, Commander Coleridge - other than you don't want to be captain. Scott Coleridge: Nope Chirakis: Questions or comments from the crew? Chirakis: Seeing none... Chirakis: Crew dismissed. Be well. Be Safe. Don’t forget your towel.
