  1. Bones: Ok, somewhere we made a wrong turn. This is supposed to be where they keep the endangered species. Woman: Since when did man become endangered? Kirk: Since they first issued those uniforms, crewman. Scotty: Aye, but this man's uniform is going to seal humanity's extinction.

  9. CNN.com's Article posted 11:53 AM LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- James Doohan, the burly chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise in the original "Star Trek" TV series and motion pictures who responded to the command "Beam me up, Scotty," died early Wednesday. He was 85. Doohan died at 5:30 a.m. (1330 GMT) at his Redmond, Washington, home with his wife of 28 years, Wende, at his side, Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens said. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, he said. The Canadian-born Doohan was enjoying a busy career as a character actor when he auditioned for a role as an engineer in a new space adventure on NBC in 1966. A master of dialects from his early years in radio, he tried seven different accents. "The producers asked me which one I preferred," Doohan recalled 30 years later. "I believed the Scot voice was the most commanding. So I told them, 'If this character is going to be an engineer, you'd better make him a Scotsman.' " The series, which starred William Shatner as Capt. James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as the enigmatic Mr. Spock, attracted an enthusiastic following of science fiction fans, especially among teenagers and children, but not enough ratings power. NBC canceled it after three seasons. When the series ended in 1969, Doohan found himself typecast as Montgomery Scott, the canny engineer with a burr in his voice. In 1973, he complained to his dentist, who advised him: "Jimmy, you're going to be Scotty long after you're dead. If I were you, I'd go with the flow." "I took his advice," said Doohan, "and since then everything's been just lovely." Copyright 2005 The Associated Press. 11. “When opportunity knocks…something better be on the other side.” Davies’ Logs Commanding Officer USS Agincourt Sim Time: April 23, 2397 0507.19 Davies scanned the memo for the fourth time. “Captain, you are to proceed to the following coordinates where you are to make first contact with an alien species that recently contacted us. Until this point in time, we have had no contact with the said species and we have little information on them other than the message we received which asked of our immediate assistance.” “For crying out loud!” Davies threw the PADD in disgust letting it ricochet off the wall and skitter across the floor in his office. “Ugh!” Davies let out a cry that he was sure could be heard from the bridge. The truth was, they were all suffering, to a certain extent, what he was dealing with. The USS Agincourt had been at the coordinates for over eight days and still there was no sign of an alien species, vessel or any semblance of life. There they drifted, watching, waiting, for the slightest thing to move. Nothing. Davies let his mind wander to the better moments of his career. The first time he took the Jerusalem out into space, his first skirmish with an enemy combatant, even participating in Admiral Seveigh’s committee on the implementation of Versailles. He wished he was living out those moments rather than sitting and waiting to make contact with a species probably not even worth the Federation’s time. More Nothing. He chuckled as he thought back to his Security training from the Academy. Commodore Wigginsteimerlockin taught both Advanced Tactical and Starship Weaponry. None of the students liked pronouncing the professor’s full name, so they took to calling him by his favorite word. They called him Dr. Smithereens. The professor could be counted on bringing up the word in every class referencing everything from enemy warpships exploding, to precision mining operations, to overheating a pan of meatloaf with a phaser. Even More Nothing. Davies sighed. Perhaps he was being too pessimistic. First contacts are what many starship Captains live for, a chance to be noted, to have a little piece of history. Yet, this kind of opportunity seemed more cruel than rewarding. “When opportunity knocks,” Davies thought, “it better be waiting for me when I open the door.”

  19. ::grin:: Most of the artists you listed date me a little (though I grew up a huge Carman fan, who didn't?), but while I'm not a huge fan of Gaither's music, I do love the homecoming concerts he puts on. Greats like Ray Boltz, Sandi Patti, Don Francisco, Mark Lowery have all been apart of of the Gaither movement. :)

  25. Davies Logs Captain Simeon Davies Commanding Officer USS Agincourt NCC-81762 0506.18 “Marriage, Honeymoon, and the Life to Come” Simeon had once remembered reading about post-nuptial depression, or PND, in a medicine journal while waiting for his scheduled physical at Starfleet Academy some two decades ago. The article had struck him as humorous at the time. Now he was wondering if he was starting to have his own version of PND. The wedding was over and the honeymoon too. Suddenly life seemed so mundane. When a new Commanding Officer takes command, it’s analogous to a marriage, the two becoming one. The officer feels purposed, mission-driven, hopefully optimistic. He believes that around every turn there will be adventure, and believes that the ecstasy that he has been building up to will last forever. The ship itself, the bride, responds in a similar manner. She is willing to help the officer achieve his mission, as she tries her best to be a support to him. Together they work as a team, bound together with strands of intimacy, growing in passion, respect and commitment. But something seems to happen over time, which threatens the purposed union. Complacency. The officer seems to lose some of his sense of adventure, and his idealistic outlook becomes tainted by the realism of his life. The ship too seems to take on the attitude of her partner. She becomes used to life the way it is and slowly but surely becomes disconnected, less of one, more of two. Simeon Davies was beginning to feel the affects of his love silently and slowly drifting away. He had not planned this, nor was this desire. Yet, the harder he tried to become joyful in everyday life, the more difficult it was becoming. The eidetic images in his mind of speeding across the galaxy and solving the universe’s problems still seemed real, but somehow, he began to feel as if they were an illusion, an enticing carrot before him that he could not reach. The wedding was over; that was certainly true. The launching ceremony had long since passed. Now, it seemed the honeymoon was over too. The Pax Primus incident had fulfilled his hopes for excitement and adventure, but now, hovering over a remote Klingon colony, Simeon almost felt like a caged animal. It wasn’t as if he didn’t love his job anymore, or enjoy his position, it was more that he was searching for more, for a deeper satisfaction in life. Simeon ran his fingers on the arm of his chair. There was so much he felt he was missing, so much he needed to learn. Now that he was on the top of the world, or so it seemed to him, he felt he needed to return to learn some of the simpler things of life. How does one find complete joy, how does one love unconditionally, how does one break out of the mold of complacency. Hours later, Simeon sat in a corner of one of the last deck of the vessel, listening to the pacifying song of his spouse, pondering these things.
