USS Excalibur Sim Log - 09.22.19

MISSION BRIEF: Excalibur has been left behind in the Sarras system where it will be towed back by the Starfleet tug USS Abanaki. The crew is returning to Starbase 39 Tango aboard the USS Monte Blanc. As we pick up, the Monte Blanc is arriving.

Hakran K'hal: :: in the crowded Ten Forward with a lot of crew from both ships, watching the station grow larger through the large, curved windows ::

Irene Mincine: :: Irene's not in Ten Forward or anywhere else. In fact, she hasn't been seen outside her quarters in days. ::

Cptn Swain: ::In Ten Forward aboard the Monte Blanc drinking tea. He had a new haircut::

Rhan K'hal: :: first in line at the main hatch ::

William Chocox: ::in the lounge watching out the windows as well:: How are you doing Lieutenant K'hal?

Maryse Dubois: ::Is in one of the holodecks she had reserved, a program running.::

VonDrake: ::finishing a story to his annoyed bunkmate, Ensign O'Malley of the Mont Blanc::….And that's really the thing about the rockhopper penguin, they are quite remarkable creatures.

Hakran K'hal: :: frowns at the station ::

VonDrake: O'Malley>::trying to hide his annoyance:: Fascinating.... But, you should really be getting to 10 Forward, I think you're getting ready to depart.

Rhan K'hal: Mont Blanc Security Officer> :: arrives on station at the hatch, notices the Caitian in an operations jumpsuit already there ::

Rhan K'hal: Mont Blanc Security Officer> Is our ship that bad?

VonDrake: ::glances at the time:: Wow, how time flies. ::grabs his duffel, and extends his hand to O'Malley:: It's been a pleasure Ensign. Maybe one day I can return the favor of your hospitality.

Rhan K'hal: Oh, not at all. Quite spiffy, actually. Just want to get on with things.

Hakran K'hal: :: not at all wanting to get on with things as he still hasn't made his mind ::

William Chocox: Am I forgetting an unfortunate incident at Starbase 39 K'hal?

Hakran K'hal: :: frown deepens ::

VonDrake: O'Malley>::shakes Ryan's hand:: If I could be so lucky...now go, before you get left behind.

VonDrake: ::nods, and departs O'Malley's quarters::

VonDrake: O'Malley>::collapses in mental exhaustion onto his bed::

Hakran K'hal: :: shakes out of his inner nebula, looks over at Will :: Oh, hello. No, I'm... just not quite ready. The Mont Blanc could've taken an even more scenic route.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Her time aboard the Mont Blanc was thankfully coming to an end. Not that she hadn't appreciated the lift, but Miranda wanted her own ship back. The fact that it was being tugged, rather than returning by its own power, irked her more than a little. However, simply because she'd been aboard another ship didn't mean she hadn't been working. Pausing in front of Mincine's quarters, she rang the chimes.::

William Chocox: Unfortunately we only seem to take scenic routes on the Excalibur. I'm not entirely sure that other ships don't just go from Point A to Point B, complete their mission without a hitch and then return to Point A to get a new mission and crew.

Irene Mincine: Irene> "What do you want?" :: Was the muffled response from the inside. ::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> The Monte Blanc docks at one of the lower docking bases.

VonDrake: ::makes his way to the lounge just in time to see the ship dock::

Hakran K'hal: Oh, my time on the Copernicus was quite dull. I miss it.

Rhan K'hal: :: taps foot, waiting for the umbilical and the airlocks to finish mating ::

William Chocox: Excalibur has been my only posting so far.

Maryse Dubois: ::Gets a warning beep, signaling the ship had docked. She sighed as she got out of the hot spring, wrapping herself in a towel. After she dried her hair a put on a white sun dress, she ended the program and left the holodeck.::

Indaura Ryssan: :: Drinking at the Mont Blanc mess ::

William Chocox: Graduated the Academy and was posted here. I wonder if that prank back in the Academy caused me to be posted somewhere so interesting.

Rhan K'hal: Adios! :: springs forward as soon as the hatch opens, gives his ID to the Tango security on the other side ::

Hakran K'hal: Hmm. Well, I suppose they thought you could handle it.

Maryse Dubois: ::She headed for the docking port, entering some commands into her tablet as she walked.::

William Chocox: ::looks over to where the other K'hal has practically sprinted through the hatch:: Was that your relation running away at high speed?

Hakran K'hal: :: sighs :: He's more than ready to be here. And to get a mission and be somewhere else. Standing still isn't his forte.

Cptn Swain: ::He finished his tea and slid a duffle bag over his shoulder::

Maryse Dubois: ::Steps onto the station. She gets a confirmation on her tablet.::

William Chocox: Ah, I see. Forgive me, because I'm sure it's come up before, but how is he related to you?

Rhan K'hal: :: heads straight to his new temporary quarters so he can drop his bag off ::

Hakran K'hal: He's my youngest sibling.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Frowning, Miranda rang the chimes again and again and again and again.::

Rhan K'hal: :: opens the door, sets his bag inside (off to the side), and then lets it close as he's already halfway down the hallway heading to the lift ::

VonDrake: ::starts following the crowd of Excalibur crew out of the Mont Blanc::

William Chocox: That was my first thought, that he was a sibling rather than a cousin. Shall we depart?

Irene Mincine: "I'm coming! I'm coming!" :: There was a pause and then the door slid open. Irene was in the doorway, her hair matted and her uniform totally wrecked and dirty. Behind her, the guest quarters were a mess, with food all over the floor and empty bottles everywhere. :: "OK. I'm here." :: She smelled like a dive bar. ::

Hakran K'hal: I guess we should. :: reaches down and grabs his duffel ::

William Chocox: ::grabs his duffels and leads the way::

Cptn Swain: ::Asher sighed, but noticed Hakran and William::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Miranda's frown deepened.:: Ah, you're looking quite well, Ensign.

Maryse Dubois: ::Explores the station for a while.::

Rhan K'hal: :: pops up in Tango Ops, makes his way to his counterpart - exchanges greetings, and starts pumps him for news ::

VonDrake: ::spies the Captain, his boss, and K'hal, a bit a ahead of him::

Hakran K'hal: :: follows Will ::

Cptn Swain: ::He considered going up to them, but that might be awkward. He was their commanding officer.::

Indaura Ryssan: :: Finishes her drink, gets her pack and heads for the station ::

William Chocox: Captain 8 o'clock.

Hakran K'hal: Please, don't mention time.

Hakran K'hal: Even if it's a direction.

Irene Mincine: "Commander! What a surprise." :: She leaned against the doorframe. :: "How's our traveling? We at the starbase?" :: How was she even upright? ::

Indaura Ryssan: :: Enters the station ::

William Chocox: Ok...Captain West Southwest relative to our direction of travel? ::shows his ID to the security guy::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Yes, and it is time you get your rear in gear. ::She pushed Irene backward, holding her by her soiled uniform as she hauled her back into the room.:: Look at the state of this place. Look at the state of you!

Hakran K'hal: :: has no idea his chief biologist is currently getting the treatment by the XO, assumes she's somewhere in the queue behind him as he too shows his credentials ::

William Chocox: Where are your current quarters?

Cptn Swain: Security> How many of you are there. ::to K'Hal::

Hakran K'hal: Coming off this ship? I'm the last. Unless Rhan managed to run a circle back here already. In general? You don't want to know.

VonDrake: ::starts fishing for his security ID::

VonDrake: Comes up behind K'hal in the "check in" line::

Cptn Swain: Security> ::Gives Khal a look::

William Chocox: ::to the Security Personnel:: What, you've never seen a Caitian before?

Irene Mincine: :: Irene stumbled backward, but Miranda's help kept her upright. Her mood flipped from genial to irritated like a switch. :: "The state of me? Don't we got more important stuff to worry about than how I deal with things?"

Hakran K'hal: In fact, I'm not even sure *I* know. Depends on whether my second cousin on my father's side has had another litter.

Indaura Ryssan: :: Does not see any of her crew, just sits on a nearby couch ::

Rhan K'hal: :: having got all he can get out of the lieutenant commander, exits Ops before the duty officer can give him the stink eye for the 10th time ::

Cptn Swain: Don't scare him Lieutenant.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Not at the moment, no. ::Miranda said flatly. She released her with a jerk and pointed to the shower.:: Strip and get in there. You smell like you've been wallowing in garbage for the past week.

Cptn Swain: Security> ::waves them through::

VonDrake: ::watching the exchange between some of his crew and the security officer, then filters through with them::

Hakran K'hal: :: moves on :: Doesn't help that Rhan and I look so much alike. That's the main reason I have my little pointy beard. :: rubs it thoughtfully ::

Indaura Ryssan: :: Gets out her padd and reads letters from home ::

Cptn Swain: You have fluffier morning fur.

William Chocox: Oh, I thought we'd picked up the Mirror Universe version of you.

Cptn Swain: ::Smirks at Harkran as he moves past them.::

Hakran K'hal: :: blinks at the Captain :: I'm not sure whether to applaud your observational skills, Captain, or to apply for a restraining order.

Irene Mincine: :: From the state of the room, she practically had been. She was ready to put up a fight but some rational part of her that still remained decided that maaaaybe she should do what the commander says. :: "What, you're my mom now, too?" :: She stumbled into the small washroom, pulling the curtain behind her. Filthy clothes came flying over the top of it. ::

Cptn Swain: I already have a husband.

Hakran K'hal: Don't forget to punch him.

Cptn Swain: ::He smiled. About that.::

Hakran K'hal: :: both K'hals are extremely helpful in remembering where blows need to be landed ::

Cptn Swain: Right, well our quarters are this way. Have a good afternoon.

Hakran K'hal: You too, sir.

Rhan K'hal: :: manages to track Maryse down :: Boo.

VonDrake: ::makes his way towards his quarters, which, not surprisingly, look like the quarters he split on the Mont Blanc, which look like his quarters on the Excalibur::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: No, but I'm your Executive Officer and your well being is my business. ::Wrinkling her nose in disgust, she began to collect the trash strewn about the room, shoving it all into the reclamation unit.::

Maryse Dubois: ::Her dress twirls a bit as she turns to Rhan.:: Hey.

Rhan K'hal: They always keep this place so clean for a starbase.

VonDrake: ::purses his lips at Starfleet's apparent lack of interior decorating creativity::

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: This seems to be one of the cleaner stations I've seen.

Hakran K'hal: :: stops outside his door, looks to Will :: Here's my stop. See you around.

Rhan K'hal: D'you think that's because we're at the ass-end of the Federation or they have very efficient janitorial staff?

Maryse Dubois: It might be a little of both. :;Grins.::

Cptn Swain: ::He paused outside of Arden's quarters and entered the security code.::

Irene Mincine: :: There was lots of replicated food, empty bottles clearly taken from Ten Forward, junk everywhere. Irene's personal stuff was mostly still in her blue duffel bag in the corner. :: "Yeah, OK... miss big shot..." :: A few minutes later, Irene emerged from the washroom, wearing athletic shorts and a blue tank top. ::

Rhan K'hal: They need some more shops though. I always end up having to get stuff shipped.

Irene Mincine: :: She seemed a bit more alert than when she came in, so guess the shower did some good. ::

William Chocox: See you around. ::walks over to his quarters::

Cptn Swain: ::It was strange coming into them like this.::

Hakran K'hal: :: enters the quarters that, yes, Operations saw fit to make him share with his brother - again - doesn't trip over Rhan's bag that was thoughtfully set to the side ::

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: That is definitely a downside. At least the have a couple decent bars with food.

VonDrake: ::sees a box sitting there in the corner of his temp quarters, smiles as he realizes that it is his remaining personal goods::

Rhan K'hal: So, I can't give you your present yet, because the cargo shuttle is a couple of days late.

Maryse Dubois: ::Surprised look.:: Oh?

William Chocox: ::tosses his duffel bag onto his bed and decides to explore the station::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: What was that? ::Lifting a dangerous eyebrow at Irene. She waved an empty bottle at her and then the room.:: Help me finish. You're not leaving this place a trash dump.

Rhan K'hal: Well, we did get through all that without losing anyone... that we started with. I thought you deserved something special for your hard work.

Rhan K'hal: I got something for Hak and Irene too, but I may need to break Hak's over his head.

Maryse Dubois: ::Grins.:: Trying to get into the Doctor's good graces?

Hakran K'hal: :: finds his ears burning ::

VonDrake: ::opens the box to find his wind and fire wheels and his d'k'tahgs::

Irene Mincine: :: Miranda's eyebrow struck fear into Irene's heart. She sighed. :: "I shouldn't even be in this place... should have left me in engineering..." :: Irene muttered as she helped Miranda clean up the room. ::

Rhan K'hal: :: grins back :: I thought I already was.

Hakran K'hal: :: tosses his duffel onto his bunk, then follows it ::

Maryse Dubois: ::Smiles:: Maybe.

Rhan K'hal: Well, then it can't hurt. Though you don't get any clues, you'll just have to wait for it.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Should have left you in engineering to die, you mean? You know that isn't an option. We take care of our own, Mincine. This mission was a rough one, especially for you, but it isn't always going to be safe, boring science experiments. You learned that in the academy.

VonDrake: ::Under that, is a smaller box carrying the items of for his ceremonial mantle.

VonDrake: ::

Maryse Dubois: ::Looks out at others going about their business.:: So have you heard anything yet? I imagine first thing you did was probably go up to OPS.

Indaura Ryssan: :: Gets a more filling meal from the replicator nearest her, sits back down ::

VonDrake: ::begins setting up the mantle, and places the wind and fire wheels at each end::

Rhan K'hal: Other than a good bit of station gossip, the lack of information was what struck me. He wasn't holding out on me, so if Starfleet has a plan yet, it's being tightly held onto.

VonDrake: ::picks up the d'k'taghs, and eyes them, recalling how they came to his possession::

Maryse Dubois: ::Sighs:: Well that's never good.

Irene Mincine: :: She stopped cleaning. :: "I know that. I know... and I was thrown in the deep end... and poked and prodded... almost died... revived... watched myself die..." :: She sat down on the floor, uncharacteristically ready to start bawling. :: "I just... it's so hard to adjust to this life, you know? I don't know how I can take it if every mission is like this." :: Tears roll down her cheeks. :: "They don't teach you how to blow up your ship in the academy, okay? Or be a temporal guinea pig, or... or..."

Rhan K'hal: Yeah. I think they're still chewing on it. Probably waiting on the report from the Abanaki.

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: I'm sure they have to decide if it is even worth fixing the ship.

Cptn Swain: Computer... play classical music.

William Chocox: ::wanders the station looking at the different shops and establishments::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Miranda sighed and sank down to the floor beside her.:: Hey... I know. Believe me, I know. And every mission isn't going to be like that. Trust me. But, there are going to be tough times ahead. There always are.

Rhan K'hal: Which will then determine a direction on what to do with us.

VonDrake: ::runs his thumb over the family crest, which was originally that of the House of K'Hex, but it was changed by a friend of the family, a "v" with a set off lines cresting across the top of it, crudely at artistically representing a rockhopper penguin, Ryan's favorite animal::

Rhan K'hal: (( it's true - someone else will get to be "IT" for the next mission ))

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: The doctor's report said that you'd need a bit of leave before going back on duty. I want you to take that time to find some way to cope besides imploding. We never did get a chance to finish training. Why don't you focus on that? You know I could use the help.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: And if, at the end of your leave, you still don't think you can keep going, then we can see about getting you a transfer. Some place cushy and boring. Or out of Star Fleet entirely.

Maryse Dubois: ::Nods.:: Hopefully it will be leave for us then. But we usually aren't that lucky.

William Chocox: ((Wait...IT? Like the clown?))

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: (( Yes, we all float down here. ))

Maryse Dubois: ((Oy))

Cptn Swain: ::Asher unbuttoned his uniform jacket and rubbed his temples as classical music started filtering through the room::

Rhan K'hal: Yeah, our luck has a tendency to kick in at the last minute.

Rhan K'hal: :: sighs :: I don't know if Hak will stay with us. He loves the science, but he's hating the responsibility of being department head.

VonDrake: ::places the d'k'taghs on the mantle as well::

Maryse Dubois: I can completely sympathize with that.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene sniffs and nods. :: "I know what you're trying to do and I'd never want to turn my back on Starfleet." :: She laughed, nervously. :: "I know we all did everything we could. I know you're trying to help. It's gonna... it's just... yeah. Training. And a long break."

Rhan K'hal: :: lopsided smile :: I bet you do.

VonDrake: ::notes that he's missing some penjing trees, starts contemplating how exactly he could come across some, and how exactly he'd get them to grow in sunless confines of a ship/space station::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Alright, but baby steps. First, let's get your stuff and get off this ship. You've got quarters waiting for you on the station.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Forget the trash. I've just decided that the Mount Blanc janitorial crew can earn their keep today.

Irene Mincine: :: Irene slowly climbed to her feet. :: "Thank you. I know I look like a total ass. I'm so sorry."

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She rose, though with much more creaking in her joints:: Yea, but no more than the rest of us.
