Iota 18 Mission

The Manticore has responded to a medical emergency from the Iota-18 research station, whose lead researcher is Manticore's former CMO, Dr. Kyle Mele. A Medical and Security team visited the station to assess a nanite-infused epidemic. They have been released from Medical quarantine and some autopsies were about to be performed when some of the dead bodies began to show neural and blood flow activity and even muscular-skeletal movements.

Is this normal post-rigor twitching, or do we have zombies onboard?

With the question of nanites still unanswered, bodies ready for autopsy continued to twitch, hands and legs eventually moving in quasi-living motions. In response, the medical deck has been put in total lockdown, an attempt to contain the problem. However, Manticore crew in other areas of the ship have begun to show the signs of the same illness that spread through Iota 18, resulting in death. To better deal with the situation, senior medical personnel have been given access to Iota 18's top secret files, but with the infection spreading - and supposedly the nanites - it's a race against time to save the entire crew.

Thanks to a lot of quick two-stepping by science and engineering, the nanites have been removed from the crew. The dead bodies from Iota-18 are now totally dead (read: not zombies) and the live bodies are... well... fully alive and not under the influence of the nanites. Unfortunately, some of the crew - especially Dr. Chalice and Admiral Atragon - have severe after-effects. Dr. Chalice, whose Borg nanites fought for dominance against those of Iota-18, is in serious condition after undergoing surgery. Admiral Atragon's exoskeleton was a prime target for the Iota-18 nanites; they completely reconfigured his trachea, effectively removing it, so he could not breathe.

Thankfully, 24th century medicine is such that the admiral's trachea could be restored. After a long, slow process of recuperation, he resumed command of the Manticore. We departed Maturin Station and are headed to Earth.
