Chat Room troubles?

Chirakis posted something in the "From the GMs" boards about the chat rooms being fidgety. Since that board does not allow replies, I wanted to start a thread here. Please post if you are having trouble getting into the chat rooms.

 

Of course, please remember 3 aspects to any chat room connectivity.

1. Google Chrome no longer supports plug-ins, including Java (in other words, you cannot sim from Chrome)
   
2. If you encounter any issues getting the room to load, please be sure you have the latest version of Java
   
3. If you still have trouble, please clear your browser's cache and restart your browser session.

I've had on and off trouble. Chat was inaccessible Friday night from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm ET. Could not access today on any platform today until about an hour ago.

 

I'm on Win 8, FF 39 with the latest Java plugin that only works with Win 8 and 8.1.

Took a while for STSF.net to even load. I have the latest Java, temp files, cookies and cache were cleaned a couple weeks ago. I got booted after about 10 minutes in game - and it took just as long for STSF.net to load and allow me to log in again.

Thanks, Vil. Unfortunately, stsf.net slow loading is not an issue that is tied to java or the chat room at all. We may have to open a different topic for that, but I have not heard of there being a problem just loading our home page (when it loads at all). Thank you.

I tried logging into chat via mobile last night as a test and had no problem. Test right now was unsuccessful. It defaulted to the message board.

Chat via Mobile may be a different issue. Right now, we would like to track and quantify any issues with getting into the room from a computer, using a full (non-Chrome) browser. As said above, if you encounter any issues, verify that you have the latest version of Java and that your browser cache has been cleared.

 

If you still encounter trouble, please let us know as many details as you can (i.e., if there are any error messages or strange screens presented). We are aware that there could be a delay of up to a minute while Java loads - and during that time, the chat window will not display any message or image. It will remain a blank chat window and then the login fields will suddenly appear.

On August 8th, I tried to use the chat rooms via IE. and Firefox, and I couldn't get into them. Something about a HTTP: Authentication problem. I cleared both, updated java, no go.

 

Good news is I ran a test before posting this, and via both browsers it worked fine.

Thanks, Andrew. Yes, the authentication error is one that we had heard of. Please let me know if you see it crop up again.
