The Story of the Coalition

The adventure began with a training exercise. The crew of the Arcadia-D,

under the command of First Officer Brianna Sullivan, boarded an obsolete

Antaries class starship called the U.S.S. Sea Tiger. Their mission was to

make enough repairs for the ship to be space worthy and to use it to attack

Captain Moose and the Arcadia in a simulated battle exercise.

Upon reactivation, the defenseless Sea Tiger was suddenly attacked by a

Klingon vessel. 80 years earlier, the Sea Tiger had ignored a distress call

from the Klingon Empire. They had a Klingon defector on board and chose not

to compromise his safety. A renegade Klingon faction had not forgotten and

had finally come to claim their revenge.

Two crewpersons died. Many more were injured. Dana Quest was forced to rip

Ziggy's body from a flaming bridge console, leaving half his face behind in

the rescue. To this day, his scars haven't healed. Neither has hers.

The search for their assailants led the Arcadia to a Klingon colony where the

story of the Sea Tiger and its defector unfolded. Years earlier, a group of

Klingons had entered into an agreement with a group of scientists known as

the Coalition. The Coalition was developing weapons that would help the

Klingons conquer the Federation, the Romulan Empire, and the rest of the

known galaxy. Appalled by their research, one lone Klingon left the secret

weapons laboratory carrying the main component of the weapon with him.

Captain Moose was given that component along with the coordinates of the

desolate moon which housed the laboratory.

This component was part of a weapon that was later named "The Revelation

Device." The Arcadia found the moon, along with its secret laboratory and

the remaining parts of the Revelation Device. The Klingons who were left had

guarded the device for close to 80 years, hoping the Coalition would replace

the missing part so they could fulfill their destiny. These same Klingons

had attacked the Sea Tiger. During the battle that ensued, Moose's component

was reunited with the rest of the device and the weapon was activated.

The devastation was indescribable. Every living cell, every microbe caught

in the Revelation field was obliterated. The Klingon moon was reduced to a

lifeless, sterile hunk of barren rock. The crew of the Arcadia had barely

made it out of the system in time. No one could believe what they had

witnessed.

But before the device detonated, it had broadcast an epsilon wave signal into

deep space. The Revelation Device had notified its creators of its awakening.

The Arcadia followed the epsilon waves to the planet Axaia in Sector 122,

where an epsilon wave generator was intercepting all communications bands in

the planet's atmosphere and broadcasting them towards a point deep in the

Beta Quadrant. Further investigation of the device on Axaia was thwarted by

the appearance of a woman claiming to be "Benai". Her vocal commands were

impossible to resist, although she did not appear to be fully telepathic.

She froze the Arcadia crew in their tracks and destroyed the generator. The

Arcadia had no choice but to return home.

In the 80 years since their dealings with the Klingons, the Coalition had

grown from a group of unimaginably brilliant scientists into a governing body

that ruled many star systems. A minor Axaian Magistrate named Gio Moderi had

been in negotiations with the Coalition Council. He was trying to deliver

Axaia to the Coalition in exchange for a seat on the Council. His wife,

Rowan Moderi, bore an uncanny resemblance to Dr. Hayden Dacotah.

Upon leaving Sector 122, an unexplainable accident in engineering caused the

deaths of 74 crewpersons, including Chief Engineer Carl Wills. A similar

accident aboard the shuttle Buutebyte resulted in the supposed deaths of both

Ziggy Stardust and Marty Umberti. The possibility of sabotage by the Benai

and the Coalition was too likely to rule out.

The Arcadia returned to Starbase 331, where Captain Moose was approached by a

rogue named Emerson McBaine. McBaine offered a set of coordinates for the

planet Paktar, where Benai had been sighted. In exchange, he wanted to be

taken there. The coordinates would take 103 days to reach through Federation

space, but only two weeks if a shortcut was taken through the Romulan Empire.

Moose placed the Arcadia under the command of Dr. Virax and sent the ship on

the long route towards McBaine's coordinates. Meanwhile, key crew members

booked passage on a Klingon vessel and attempted to cross Romulan space. The

crew helped the Klingons discover a cloaked Romulan spy vessel, which they

were later given to complete their journey.

They arrived at McBaine's coordinates in the confiscated Romulan vessel and

discovered the planet Paktar. Paktar was in the midst of a celebration.

They had just announced their membership in the Coalition. Gio Moderi and

his wife, Ronan, had traveled from Axaia for the occasion.

Moose and the others searched from information on the Coalition and the

Benai. The Coalition, however, found Moose fist. They took him before the

Coalition Counsel. They were impressed with his tenacity and guile, having

been the first Federation citizen in 75 years to have found them, and offered

him a chance to apply for the same seat on the council that Gio had been

pursuing. He was told that he would be contacted later to define his

"project proposal" and was unceremoniously beamed out of the counsel chamber.

Meanwhile, Rowan Moderi decided to leave her husband. Having discovered the

Federation party, she asked for asylum and passage out of Coalition space.

Gio utilized the local Paktaran police force to hunt down the Arcadia crew.

When Virax finally arrived with the Arcadia, they risked beaming up through

an ion storm to escape.

They materialized on board the ISS Arcadia, a mirror-universe version of

their ship, and became embroiled in the power struggle between the ISS

Captain Moose and his cousin Samantha Riker. The ISS Arcadia had a working

prototype of the Revelation Device and was heading to Axaia, where they

planned to detonate the device. The crew learned that the trigger for each

Revelation Device was keyed to a specific telepath, and that it could not be

activated without them. The ISS Samantha Riker was that person. The USS

Arcadia crew was unable to stop the destruction of Axaia in the ISS world.

Most of the crew was able to leave that dimension and return back to the USS

Arcadia, but Dr. Khiaara was no where to be found. Much later, Brianna

Sullivan left the Arcadia to return to ISS space and search for her friend.

Having witnessed the effects of the Revelation Device for a second time, the

crew limped home. They were greeted by a Benai delegation. While the

Arcadia was gone, they had arrived in Federation space to establish

diplomatic relations. Moose was offered the Ambassadorship of the first

Federation embassy to be established on Paktar. Knowing the danger of the

Revelation Device, he felt he had no choice but to go back to Paktar and do

everything in his power to uncover that threat. Moose resigned as Captain

of the Arcadia and the Delegation to Paktar was formed.
