History Narrative:

Five years prior to T’Loren’s birth, Surik’s wife was killed in a shuttle accident. Leaving her father still a young man (relatively speaking for Vulcans), and a widower. In the years following her death, he was assigned to Earth, working with the Daystrom institute as the Vulcan Ambassador. Aliyah was also working with the Institute, and this is how she came to meet Surik. Over the course of four years, they became friends, developing a comfortable working relationship. It was this relationship that lead Surik to propose bonding when his next ponfarr cycle approached. In love with him by then, Aliyah agreed, and less than a year after ponfarr, T’Loren was born.

For the first several years of her life, the family lived on Earth. They took frequent trips to Betazed, staying up to a year depending on the work that took them there. Trips to Vulcan were less frequent, but enough to familiarize young T’Loren with Vulcan philosophy. When she was ten, the family moved to Betazed for a five-year assignment. It was here that she started to learn about her developing empathic abilities. She learned to boost her abilities to full telepathy by being in contact with the person she wanted to communicate with. When she was sixteen, the Surik was called back to Vulcan to assist with an important archaeological find near the southern pole.

T’Loren went with him, though her mother, of necessity, remained on Betazed. It was during her years on Vulcan that she developed a strong interest in archaeology. After a few months there, she was granted a job at the site, starting as a gopher and working her way up to the assistant of one of the researchers by her 19th birthday. Also during these years, at her father’s insistence, she studied the Vulcan mind sciences. He hoped that she would learn the discipline and to control her emotions like most Vulcan’s did. What she learned in the end was to not display her emotions when she chose, but she did not embrace the Vulcan philosophy of suppressing the emotions.

During her 19th year, she developed a friendship with one of the Fleet officers assigned there. Through this interaction, she came to decide on joining, and before she was twenty-one had entered the Academy. Four years later, she graduated as an Ensign, and was assigned to the USS Richard Galen.

After two years, T’Loren was transferred to the USS Federation, which was then in need of science officers. After a year there, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, junior grade. A year later, while on leave, she was a passenger on a runabout with Lt. Ethan Hawke, an undercover security operative who had recently left an assignment. Their runabout was attacked by those that had escaped during Lt. Hawke’s investigation. Both T’Loren and Ethan were severely injured before being able to escape. In order to prevent the loss of the data she was carrying, Ethan talked T’Loren into a mind meld. The extent of the injuries prevented them from being able to completely separate their minds before loss of consciousness, leaving them with a permanent bond. T’Loren, the more severely injured of the two, spent the next year relearning how to walk, etc. Upon her full return to health, she was again assigned to the USS Federation.

The knowledge and viewpoints left in her mind by Lt. Hawke, however, slowly drew T’Loren towards the Marine unit on board. She was suddenly eager to investigate realms of possibility that hadn’t previously held much interest. To her mother’s total chagrin (and tantrum), T’Loren requested a reassignment from Science to the Marine Corp. Following all necessary psychological and physical testing, her request was granted. Over the next 7 years, she excelled as a Marine, both as a pilot and in ground forces. When the USS Federation was decommissioned in early 2397, T’Loren was reassigned to Earth for a short period then sent to join the Marine unit on the USS Agincourt.

Psychological

Due to her Vulcan heritage, T’Loren sometimes experiences strong emotions. Since she did not embrace the Vulcan techniques to suppress these emotions, she can appear to her peers to be quite volatile. While generally she keeps herself under control, her temper is truly a force of nature. On the positive side, she loves more deeply and develops stronger attachments and more intense loyalty to those she befriends. T’Loren’s callsign, Paradox, given to her by fellow Marine pilot Lt. Col. Chipman, is a reference to the odds apparent in her life: A science officer turned Marine, an emotional (and humorous) Vulcan. T’Loren consistently passes all psychological testing related to her Marine assignments.

Telepathy

Being both Vulcan and Betazoid, T’Loren does possess some measure of telepathic ability. The Vulcan portion, however, is somewhat more dominant, causing her range to be limited. Touch is generally preferred for her to contact anyone she isn’t familiar with. She can accomplish it at short range, but usually at the cost of a headache from the strain. With those whom she associates more regularly, she can initial contact over a short distance (like within the ship), but further than that, and similar strain would result.

Physical

T’Loren is tall, but not unusually so. Her olive complexion and slightly pointed ears give her a slightly elf-like appearance. She is in excellent physical shape, and it shows in her appearance. Her eye color ranges from a dark green color to jet-black, depending on her mood. She keeps her hair short, in order to keep it from getting in her eyes while she works. This appearance has tended to attract the opposite gender since she was 17, and has led her to have a rather aloof attitude when it comes to dealing with men.
