Post-Summer Academy Report

PANDARIAN FUGATIVES BELIEVED DEAD

Federation sources have reported that the Academy training vessel U.S.S. Yorktown, under the command of Doctor Brian Smith, encountered the Pandarian fugatives which have been causing chaos throughout the quadrant the last several months.

The U.S.S. Franklin, captured by the Pandarians over a month ago and renamed the U.S.S. Bob, was detected on sensors near the Vega X Cluster. "This is Captain Rego of the United Pandarian starship Bob. We are on a mission of....hungry exploration," a hail is reported to have said. This conversation would later confirm the presence of Engineer Chubbs and Helmsman Lulu aboard the ship.

After an apparent firefight, the U.S.S. Bob rammed the Yorktown and caused serious damage. However, the captured Defiant Class vessel took critical injuries which resulted in the loss of warp core containment. Before the vessel's destruction, several small objects were launched from the Bob. Investigation has revealed this launch took place after someone aboard the ship used a command saying "Computer, initiate emergency kitchen freezer ejection sequence! Authorization Rego A-367." The contents of these "freezer ejectors" is unknown. Sensors confirm these devices did have builtin impulse engines, raising questions if these are long range torpedos of some kind.

Thirty seconds later, the U.S.S. Franklin (U.S.S. Bob) exploded. Due to plasma leaks from the ship, sensors aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown were unable to confirm if Captain Rego, Engineer Chubbs and Helmsman Lulu were aboard. However, a detailed search of the area has revealed no signs of the three Pandarians. It is believed they were lost when their captured Federation starship exploded.

FROM THE UFP NEWSWIRE

HOUSTON, TEXAS - EARTH

SECTOR 001

From their primary research facility in Houston, the Starfleet Corp. of Engineers released a preliminary report about the destruction of the U.S.S. Franklin. Assistant Director of Operations Captain Richard Cyclone gave the findings at a news conference which lasted a brief five minutes.

"Though not yet complete, the public's interest in the final moments of the U.S.S. Franklin has caused us to release this preliminary report," Cyclone stated at the beginning of the conference. As some critics expected, the preliminary document was only ten pages and did not give firm answers to any questions.

The U.S.S. Franklin was captured nearly thirty days ago when they reported an attack by a group of Pandarian terrorists. The crew of the Defiant Class ship, later called the U.S.S. Bob by it's captors, were believed to have been killed by the four Pandarians involved in the attack. The ship itself was seen numerous times during attacks against Federation interests and starships. The vessel was destroyed last week during an encounter with the U.S.S. Yorktown while on an Academy training mission.

"From the reports we have seen, and debris collected, we believe it will be possible to eventually reconstruct seventy percent of the ship," Captain Cyclone stated. The Captain followed with, "The purpose of this investigation is to determine how the terrorists were able to use our own technology against us. We hope to learn what modifications were made to the ship that allowed it to evade detection for so long."

Though not mentioned at the Starfleet Corp. of Engineers news conference, the investigation is also being hailed as a way of figuring out the final moments of the ship's existence. After the U.S.S. Franklin rammed the U.S.S. Yorktown, the ship seemed to have taken critical damage. However, due to leaking plasma, sensors were unable to confirm if the Pandarian terrorists launched an escape pod before the ship exploded. Sensors have confirmed several torpedo type devices were launched from the Franklin two minutes before the ship exploded. Though no life signs were detected, the investigation also plans to determine what these pods were.

When asked about this subject, Captain Cyclone simply remarked "We don't know at this stage. I can tell you we have debris from the area these pods came from. We're not certain as to their purpose, though it seems this section of the Franklin had been turned into some type of large scale refrigeration unit."

It is thought that all four Pandarian terrorists, including Captain Rego, Engineer Chubbs, Helmsman Lulu and Security Officer Dante, were aboard the Franklin when it exploded. A lack of ion trials following the explosion supports this theory, though no solid evidence yet exists. Starfleet has listed the four fugative terrorists as dead and a lack of recent Pandarian attacks supports this theory.

FROM THE UFP NEWSWIRE

SAN FRANCSICO - EARTH

SECTOR 001

(Excerpt from the "Santi Column" authored by Mr. Peter Santi)

...

And another sign worlds are indeed orbiting their suns occurred today as Starfleet Command and the United Federation of Planets officially closed it's investigation into the rebel Pandarian fugatives killed earlier this month. They had become the focus of a multiworld hunt after their destruction and killing spree had spread to over twenty-five different planets.

The datalink giving details about the four Pandarians, named Rego, Chubbs, Lulu and Dante, was officialy closed today and replaced by a general notice students at Starfleet Academy may view as a footnote in some history book. While the search does continue for the Pandarian's stolen frigate, the lack of an attack since the destruction of the U.S.S. Franklin seems to have silenced many critics who believed the four had not perished earlier this month.

Starfleet Command has also listed those individuals captured by the Pandarians as Missing In Action. Several sources have told UFPN it is highly unlikely those officers, or their remains, will ever be discovered.
