Background

Vakhtang Dalsazashvili was born to Tamaz and Eteri Dalsazashvili in the Black Sea town of Batumi, located in the Republic of Georgia on Earth. His father (Tamaz) is a master mechanic, co-owner and COO of an engineering company specializing in the construction and repair of both seaborne and spaceborne vessels. His mother (Eteri) serves as Vice President of Logistics for the company. The youngest of six, it was not a surprise that Vakhtang and his five siblings (listed in order), Giorgi (brother), Ketevan (Sister), Tenghiz (brother), Revaz (brother), and Makvala (sister), showed a propensity for business and engineering.

In some form or another, all six siblings have been involved in their father's business, which started out as a small repair shop serving deep-sea archeological vessels and private spacecraft located at the small seaport and spaceport in Batumi, and now has offices located on numerous planets and stations located in and around the Federation's core.

Vakhtang, however had another talent, the piano. At the age of 4, Vakhtang showed an ability to mimic what he heard played, by 5 he had the ability to read music, and by 6 he was performing concertos. He performed for friends, visitors, and dignitaries alike all the way up through high school, and appeared as a featured soloist for a number of orchestras in the Caucasus and Black Sea region. Earning accolades and gaining a reputation as a skilled performer.

As Vakhtang got older, he began to realize that places within his father's organization were few and far between with his older siblings, as well other family members, having taken or in line to take many of the positions within the corporate structure. So, Vakhtang had a choice to make. He was offered a scholarship to attend the St. Petersburg Conservatory, the same school that classically trained Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff, or he could attempt to enroll in the Academy, much like his nearest sibling, Makvala. After deliberation, he decided to follow in his sister's footsteps, and earned an appointment to Starfleet Academycareer path as an Engineer. and followed a

Academy History

Vakhtang studied Engineering at the Academy. His strengths generally veered towards more hands-on and technical aspects of the field as opposed to the theoretical side. As a result, his major was in engineering, with concentrations in structures, maintenance and design. Due to his high number of concentrations, Vakhtang's academy stay was 6 years and included a number of internship assignments, including the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, 40 Eridani A shipyards, and the JAG's office as an investigative intern. Overall, his grades were above average, graduating with honors just outside the top 10% of his class. He also was a member of the Academy Orchestra as their featured Piano concerto artist.

Psychological Profile

Vakhtang's greatest fear in life is not being able to fit in. Seven years the junior of his nearest sibling, his sister Makvala, he can be described as the classic "Oops baby". As a child, he found it hard to relate to his brothers and sisters who were a combined 7 years apart in age. As a result, Vakhtang developed an extremely social personality in order to reach out. He is unafraid of engaging in conversation, even if it is subject he is disinterested or unknowledgeable in, just for the sake of fitting in and being accepted amongst those around him. This has led to situations where Vakhtang has either bitten off more than he can chew, or committed to projects he necessarily had no interest in the first place. In fact, it is this personality trait which led him to his extended Academy stay.

At first, his sole concentration was going to be maintenance, as he went along with his classes, his mentor suggested that Vakhtang would also be good with Structural Engineering, so he added that concentration to his course load. As he was finishing with his structural engineering courses, another professor told him that he would be good with design engineering, so he added that to his course load as well. As he was finishing with his design engineering courses, another professor told him that he would probably excel Quantum Mechanics. However, the Starfleet Judge Advocate General, for whom Vakhtang was serving as an investigative intern at the time, and whom had become very fond of the cadet, strongly urged the young man to graduate and take an assignment, a request to which Vakhtang obliged.

As much as he desires to fit in, Vakhtang has no problems avoiding those people and groups which he feels he does not fit into. To them, Vakhtang may seem aloof or distant, or sometimes even like he's making an attempt to ignore them. However, this attitude is more borne out of fear, as opposed to dislike or disinterest.

Coming in to the Academy, his hobbies were quite limited. He is a "tinkerer", and loves repairing, refurbishing, or building things from scratch. He has also always been interested in classical music and has a natural talent at the Piano. In fact, Vakhtang turned down an offer from the St. Petersburg Conservatory in favor of the academy. It is an offer he hopes to be able to take up upon his retirement from the service.

In the latter part of his Academy stay, Vakhtang attempted to branch out in terms of his hobbies. Having never had a hobby other than piano, or building, designing, or fixing something, it turned out to be quite an experience for him.. Vakhtang took up springball with the help of a Bajoran roommate. Vakhtang is not very good at it, However, he enjoys the game very much.

Overall, he's starting to learn that there is life outside of building and fixing things, or playing the piano, and he is attempting to become a little more worldly. He has developed a desire to try new things at least once, even if the attempt fails miserably. (See: targ taming debacle, cliff diving incident, and chess club expulsion). Nonetheless, none of these failures have taken away he new found curiosity.

Vakhtang will be an asset to whichever department he is assigned to serve. His enthusiasm and work ethic will be admired. He just needs not to get caught up in side projects, or hobbies for that matter which may become a detriment to his duty.
