Through a Glass Darkly | Season 22

48 posts in this topic

On August 18 in the year 1985, Starbase Aegis was born and was located in the Canar System. It has since undergone two incarnations: Deep Space Aegis, and the present Sky Harbor Aegis. The station and its crew have endured the Dominion, the Klingon, and the Cardassian Wars, plus countless other threats from within and outside the bounds of the Federation space and that of the Joint Allied Powers. The Breen have disappeared, a product of their experimentation with subspace travel. However when one oppressive tyrant is destroyed, another is always ready to take its place.

As we open Season 22, the date is 13 February 2388. Sky Harbor Aegis is a strategic base used as a buffer on the edge of unknown space. Several species who were former slaves of the Breen are now free and have formed what we know as the Alien Alliance. Led by a powerful group whose resources and abilities have yet to be fully tested, the Alien Alliance has boarded and threatens to overrun the station. As far as we know, the Alliance’s next step will be to use Aegis as a staging ground to conquer the Federation and the Joint Allied Powers.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 19 August 2016

13 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.044

Season 22 Opener | The Battle for Aegis

TBS is 5 minutes.

The time is 1435 hours (2:35 PM) Aegis local.

The battle for Aegis has been raging for nearly 22 hours. Resources and physical stamina are on the wane. The Alliance fleet has been stopped, but their troops are spread out across the station. They set up a device on the park level, then beamed a number of civilians out of the habitat area into the device’s blast zone. Among the hostages are Annisha t’Korjata, adopted daughter of SubCommander Korjata, and Alexis McFarland, Dr. Sandero’s niece.

Romulan, Mithraan, and Missouri security teams have beamed to the station to assist in repelling the invaders. Several areas of the station have been evacuated. Life support in those areas is shutdown to limit the areas that the Alliance can infiltrate.

USS Missouri’s task force (including all previously phased ships), the Mithraan Defense Force, and 5 Romulan Warbirds are in position to protect the station. The defense grid is now online. Captains Chirakis and d’Ka are aboard Missouri after ditching Drakkor on an asteroid. The rest of Aegis’ crew are aboard the station.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 26 August 2016

13 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.044

TBS is 15 minutes.

The time is 1550 hours (3:50 PM) Aegis local.

A strange device has materialized on the park level of the station. Several civilians and one crew member have been taken hostage and will be held until the station and the space it protects is handed over to the Alien Alliance because they “are the rightful heirs”. Among the hostages are Tarisa, Annisha, and Alexis.

The Alliance threatens to blow up the device if their orders are not followed. However, the precocious Annisha was able to pound on, speak to, and climb on the device without harm.

We have pinpointed the origin of the Alien comm signal. LTCdr Lawliet has accessed the device’s internal sensors and trapped it in a loop.

At sim begin, we will have a few minutes left to find a solution.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 2 September 2016

13 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.044

TBS is 10 minutes.

The time is 1700 hours (5:00 PM) Aegis local.

Contact has been made with Tarisa & Co in the park area. A hole in the device’s shielding gives them communication with CnC. While the children provide a distraction, Tarisa finds a loose patch of sod and a hatch that leads out of the park. She slips through to provide a relay point to beam the device out.

Meanwhile, below decks, Cayne & Co have the device controllers in hot pursuit, only to be stopped as the intruders slip out and lock the hatch behind them.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 9 September 2016

16 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.047

TBS is 3 days.

The time is 0600 hours (6:00 AM) Aegis local.

The immediate alien threat to Aegis has been neutralized. For the moment, the station is secure and we are in the third day of cleanup and repairs. The transporters were extensively damaged so transporting is limited. Security is assessing station vulnerabilities and investigating the death of one of the missing An-Ward delegates.

The second wave of the Alien Alliance has backed off and returned to the nebula. The RSE did not pursue, choosing instead to patrol the outer reaches of Aegis space. USS Missouri and USS Tsinghua orbit Aegis, and the Mithraan Defense Force patrols close by. Aegis fighters are on standard rotation.

So far, the Alien Alliance has not shown a great deal of expertise, which leads us to question the source of their advanced technology. Were the chroniton bomb, the paralyzing handheld weapon that was used on some security personnel, and the advanced transporter system used to infiltrate the station given to them, or stolen? If given to them, by whom and why was such advanced technology wasted on an incompetent group? If stolen, where did they get them, and what else will they spring on us when they return?

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 16 September 2016

16 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.047

TBS is 10 hours.

The time is 1700 hours (5:00 PM) Aegis local, just after shift change.

After a 4-day siege and three days of round-the-clock investigations and repairs, Captain Ramson has ordered some down time to give the image of life returning to normal. Still, Missouri’s task force remains guarding the station and the immediate area and the Mithraan Defense Force patrols farther out. The RSE has begun a cloaked probe tactical recon of Alliance space and SubCommander Jorahl is picking apart the remains of the Alliance vessels, looking for clues.

After Dr. Pavilion’s autopsy findings, we remain concerned about the apparent alien telepathic influence. Captain Ramson has directed security to look for the subtle details, the obvious things that are often overlooked. To that end, Commander Cayne is searching the less-visited areas of the station and has made a surprising find.

Apparently the Alliance attack on one of the most strategic stations of the Joint Allied Powers has not prompted the Federation Council to declare war. We hope that the outcome of our investigations will swing the council vote.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 23 September 2016

17 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.048

TBS is 12 hours.

The time is 0600 hours (6:00 AM) Aegis local, just after shift change.

Most of the crew enjoy their time off. Some are haunted by questions about recent happenings or what might happen next. One was haunted by a clanking in the ceiling of his quarters and spent the night in his office, trying to sleep.

Commander Cayne was still on the trail of the missing third An-Ward delegate in the less visited areas of the station. The energy being called Shadow decided to tag along. He also came across a gang of young vigilantes who call themselves the Ghost Squad and tell Cayne that they protect those who live “Below”.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 30 September 2016

19 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.050

TBS is 2 days.

The time is 0700 hours (7:00 AM) Aegis local.

It has been five days since the immediate alien threat was neutralized. Station cleanup and repair continues. Many questions remain unanswered regarding the Alien Alliance, but scans from the RSE ships that are cloaked in Alliance space tell us that we have two months to prepare for a major assault. This does not mean we will be safe until then; the second wave of the Alliance fleet has retreated to the nebula and remains a threat.

Meanwhile, in the unfinished areas of the station, Commander Cayne has stumbled upon a group of children who call themselves the Ghost Squad. Two of them have been identified as children of prominent Federation scientists who might be in hiding for their own safety.

19 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.050

TBS is 20 minutes.

The time is 0820 hours (8:20 AM) Aegis local.

We have lost contact with the colony on TKR-117 for an update to their present status. Captain Ramson sent LCDR Kital with a team to investigate, and they found everyone unconscious. Not only are we concerned about the colonists, we are concerned that the creators and guardians of the ancient civilization there will return.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 14 October 2016

19 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.050

TBS is 30 minutes.

The time is 0950 hours (9:50 AM) Aegis local.

The away team will continue to explore the colony on TKR-117, looking for clues as to why the colonists are unconscious. A security team is en route via runabout, ETA several hours.

A link from the colony’s mainframe to Aegis has been established; command is plowing through that information for clues.

LCdr Lawliet is investigating a ship at the colony’s dock, normally used for offloading food brought from the agricultural colony across the bay.

At sim begin, an Alien Alliance ship from An-Ward is en route to Aegis. They are asking for diplomatic discussion.

19 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.050

TBS is 30 minutes.

The time is 1020 hours (10:20 AM) Aegis local.

The away team on TKR-117 is investigating the strange phenomenon of unconscious colonists. They have found nothing out of the ordinary with the colony’s records, but they have sent them on to Aegis. What they have found interesting is a strange sudden, cool wind and a dusty haze that originated in the forest. Tricorders pick up nothing more than a large object in that area. The runabout with extra security has landed.

An Alien Alliance ship has been escorted to Aegis for “diplomatic talks”. At sim begin, they are pulling into dock. Diplomatic quarters, away from the Mithraan delegation and other delegates on stopover on the station, have been arranged for the Alliance.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis |28 October 2016

19 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.050

TBS is 30 minutes.

The time is 1150 hours (11:50 AM) Aegis local.

Captain Ramson has returned safely from the Alliance ship that requested “diplomatic talks” and changed their purpose when Captain Ramson came aboard. There was no visible alien presence, only a voice that said they wanted to “negotiate” and “seek their own, the one that sleeps”. The ship has been escorted out of Aegis space.

The transporter to TKR-117 is now operable. The away team, faced with the unexpected and fueled by the events at the station, has taken cover in the colony base of operations as a precaution against anything the alien ship might try.

19 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.050

TBS is 30 minutes.

The time is 1300 hours (1:00 PM) Aegis local.

Events on TKR-117 have become more interesting. Not only is there an unconscious population, but a ship similar to the Alliance ship has mysteriously appeared. It resembles an intricate piece of driftwood with a large, smooth marble sphere at the center. While command ponders its possible origins, the away team has found an access panel in the sphere and is about to enter.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 11 November 2016

19 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.050

TBS is 30 minutes.

The time is 1430 hours (2:30 PM) Aegis local.

Information from the away team on TKR-117 tells us that the ship is an Alliance ship, and that it is sentient, possibly stolen from the Alliance by those who manned it. SrLt Tarisa has detected ultra low frequency waves coming from the ship. The computer translates them as moans, and if the ship is sentient, it seems to be in a coma. It has been suggested that we inform the Alliance that we have found their ship.

Security is monitoring the away team from orbit. A subspace transitional dampening field is around the ship and the away team. An open channel to Aegis is facilitated by the orbiting runabout. The runabout has a lock on the away team, and the planetary defense and sensor grid is fully operational and engaged.

Meanwhile, on Aegis, a person of interest has become very friendly with three children.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 18 November 2016

20 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

TBS is 12 hours.

The time is 0400 hours (4:00 am) Aegis local.

We find that the captured and rewired sentient ship on TKR-117 is a “child” - the offspring of a massive (at least 5 km wide), powerful, and enraged “mother” ship that has appeared from subspace. The away team was immediately evacuated just before a sensor overload engulfed the planet with white noise. When the dust settled, there was no sign of the ship or the planet.

During the interim, the away team has returned safely to Aegis.

On Aegis, security is investigating the presence of a lone Cardassian woman, previously attached to the Cardassian Elite Guard.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 2 December 2016

20 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

TBS is 5 hours.

The time is 1000 hours (10:00 am) Aegis local.

The command staff (everyone) has been summoned to a briefing in the conference room at 10:00.

TKR-117 has disappeared. A transporter technician from TKR-117 materialized on Aegis’ transwarp platform and is currently in sick bay. There may be other survivors.

Commander Coleridge has determined that the aliens were experimenting with slipstream drive. It appears that the slipstream drive was detected by the Athra, bringing them to TKR-117. Task Force Aegis has taken up defensive positions around Aegis, a result of unidentifiable signals coming from TKR-117. There have been no signs of retaliation by the sentient alien ship.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 9 December 2016

21 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

TBS is 1 day.

The time is 1100 hours (11:00 am) Aegis local.

It has been 24 hours since the command staff gathered in the conference room to discuss the disappearance of TKR-117 and to hear extraordinary news from Captain Ramson.

Though we cannot see TKR-117, she knows that the planet is still intact, somewhere. She saw an image of the Alliance mother ship in the sky, held by some force. The planet is alive and populated. The city is intact and people are going about their daily lives.

The colonists—archaeologists, support staff, and the Diosi—are no longer unconscious. They are moving around “as shadows”. The transwarp transporter is still linked to the planet. We might attempt beaming to the planet.

21 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

TBS is 5 minutes.

The time is 1205 hours (12:05 pm) Aegis local.

Medical has attached Transporter Chief Ono to Captain Ramson’s psionic verbalizer in an attempt to recover his memories from TKR-117. Computer core activity jumped 400%.

Sending an away team to investigate TKR-117 is now plausible, since Commander Coleridge has discovered a way to send them there and back. As soon as the computer core settles down from medical’s use, there will be a trial run.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 23 December 2016

21 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

~Unofficial Sim~

TBS is 6 hours.

The time is 1900 hours (7:00 pm) Aegis local.

Transporter Chief Ono’s memories were projected to the holodeck. Captain Chirakis and Dr. Pavilion were sent to investigate. What they experienced was seen by everyone in CnC.

The holodeck is filled with a thick mist with flashes of light coming like lighting from unseen sources. A rumble like a distant waterfall echos through the mist. The mist thins to many columns, each flashing with a light and a rumbling sound. The columns move around, several nearing Mimi and Chirakis, seeming to look them over before moving on.

The sky above seems to clear. A full night's sky of stars shine in a perfect daytime blue sky with spires reaching into the sky, the base of one standing directly ahead. The columns of mist seem to move in and out of a bright light at its base.

The Rumbling increases, a sudden wind blows in, scattering the mists. The columns move for shelter into the spires. The stars in one area of the sky shake. The tip of one spire shatters and the outline of the Alliance mothership reaches through the blue sky.

A cry of pain and despair rains down from the mothership. A nearly equal rumble echoes out of the spires. Mimi and Chirakis both move, without moving. The ground rushes past under their feet, spires and mist flashing as they race along the surface towards some distant spot, then comes to a sudden stop.

A red mist hangs ahead of them with a thumping like a heartbeat within. Within the red mist, the outline of the Alliance ship found on the surface of TKR-117 can be seen. The mist spreads, details fade, the drain on the computer core drops quickly, the holodeck images fade, and the room reverts to it's offline state.

We have our computer back and Cdr Coleridge is able to test the transwarp transporter.

21 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

~Unofficial Sim~

TBS is 10 minutes.

The time is 2010 hours (8:10 pm) Aegis local.

The away team has used the transwarp transporter to beam to TKR-117. However, the transporter system overloaded under the weight of so many patterns being phase-shifted simultaneously. Main power went offline. Essential systems fell over to emergency power seamlessly. The usual stuff exploded in its dramatic fashion.

On TKR-117, the away team materialized on solid ground outside the settlement’s main buildings. A security detail has set a perimeter and the team is ready to investigate. Their tricorders work, but an odd subspace static that looks like two very different subspace signals clashing is present on every scan. The sky is blue as it would be during the day, but all the stars are clearly visible. A few colonists are milling around on the archaeological site, but they appear to be in shock.

LtCdr Lawliet is in command of the away team. Sr Lt Tarisa, Drs Pavilion and Sandero, Cdr Cayne and Security Team Charlie accompany him.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 6 January 2017

21 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

TBS is 15 minutes.

The time is 2115 hours (9:15 pm) Aegis local.

The TKR-117 away team has found the colonists in a state of confusion. Dr. Pavilion’s interviews with the colonists yielded mixed results. An entity or entities have apparently been expecting a Starfleet team. They view the planet’s phase-shifted state as Starfleet’s responsibility and expect Starfleet to fix it but were not forthcoming with further details. These entities’ communications resemble those encountered on TKR-117 before, with the Athra, and are too powerful for human minds to fully comprehend.

Meanwhile, the AT is also investigating the subspace static that appears on every scan. The signals are either competing or communicating with one another. Lt. Tarisa established a fix on the source of the weaker signal, believed to be Alliance in origin, and the AT is on its way to that location.

On Aegis, 50% of the main power has been restored. The station is trying to assist in analyzing the subspace signals, which are interfering with communication. USS Missouri is stationed 15 AU from Aegis to help establish communication with the colony.

Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 13 January 2017

21 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

TBS is Zero.

The time is 2215 hours (10:15 pm) Aegis local.

TKR-117 is still phased. The Athra and the Alien Alliance are dueling subspace signals, but we suspect that their entanglement is unintentional. So, they are stuck, the away team is stuck, and 397 colonists are stuck. And our subspace transporter is not dependable.

The away team has reached the subspace relay station and is ready to gather as much data on the Alliance ship’s signal as possible so we can work on untangling the knot. Of course, if our strategy does not work, the planet might be lost forever and we’ll need a few new officers. Talk about paperwork….

21 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.051

TBS is 15 minutes.

The time is 2330 hours (11:30 pm) Aegis local.

So far, we have an away team and a colony stuck in subspace on a planet that is stuck in subspace with two powerful alien species who are stuck in subspace. We need to fix this.

Previously on Sky Harbor Aegis, we surmised that two powerful alien species—the Athra and the Alien Alliance—are locked in subspace because of their conflicting subspace signals. To simplify, they are like elk that have locked horns and are unable to move.

After some investigation, we now believe that the presence of the away team is adding to the subspace problem. They are acting like anchors, dug in and dragging outside subspace, trying to bring the planet—and everything on it—back to our domain. If we don’t fix this problem, the planet and everything on it could disappear in subspace, never to be seen again.

At sim begin, the away team is at the subspace transporter relay station, looking for answers.

22 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.052

TBS is 12 hours.

The time is 1230 hours (12:30 pm) Aegis local.

After a series of massive quakes caused by spikes in subspace disturbances, the clashing disturbances separate into three: one from the subspace relay station, one from the Alliance ship, and one from deep within TKR-117.

TKR-117 has popped into normal space. The away team is well, though shaken. We have lost the subspace relay station. The Alien Alliance ship is gone. The fate of the Athra ship—if it was a ship—is unknown.

At sim begin, the Aegean is in orbit of the planet to survey the situation.

TKR-117 shows no signs of instability. The transwarp transporter is gone, so the away team has beamed aboard Aegean for the trip home. USS Missouri is delivering close to 400 colonists from TKR-117 to Aegis for their safety.

At sim begin, USS Missouri has returned with the colonists. Aegean has remained behind for a while.

23 February 2388 - Stardate 2388.054

TBS is 16.5 hours.

The time is 0700 hours (7:00 am) Aegis local.

The away team and the colonists have returned to Aegis. Most of the colonists are disoriented, and all are exhausted from the experience. The returning crew is doing its best to settle into routine. The colonists have been given quarters until we determine that TKR-117 is safe for return.

The questions of the moment:

  • Why did we see two alien ships on our sensors when there was only one?
  • Why did one subspace signal come from the Alien Alliance ship and one come from deep within the planet’s core?
